I think I've seen less than 10 episodes of Catfish on MTV (yeah I know, but it's fun at times). And of those 10, I believe three ended well, with apprehensions of being a fake person, didn't come true. In other words; they looked like the pictures on Facebook and they were for real and it worked out well, at least during airing time.
Five of them were their true selves, but didn't look the same in the real world, it didn't click once they met. One was the cousin of the guy who've asked (which is crazy) and one was an ex doing some kinda revenge thing on the guy who've asked.
So, I guess you've got about 30% shot at this. But all of them had talked with each other before they met. So as a kindly advice, tell your friend to either talk to you as the first step and then Skype. If she doesn't agree, I'd call it a day. That's my 2 cents. :)
