dark comedy, 80s, kids and their parents at war

i am looking for the title of this film. it was declared as a dark comedy in the 80s, while as a kid i failed to see the humor aspect. i would like to rewatch it with adult's eyes. it's about stocky parents and their rebellious kids (most of them at teen age) that starts of with a minor disagreement and ends up with the kids and the parents being literally at war, with both sides building a small fort to attack from there. pretty dark stuff as far as i remember.

Could it be The Wizard (1989)?

while that surely looks like a fun film, the one i am looking for is a much darker territory.

damn, they even have the gaming glove in this. gotta check it out the next time i am baked.

reply

That sounds familiar. I don't think this is it. But this is in the same territory. Parents (1989)

reply

You know what. It might have been a Tales from the Crypt episode. Or one of them anthology type shows like that. I've made that mistake a lot over the years remembering something old.

i am 100% sure that it was shown in european cinemas and that it wasn't a TFTC episode.

reply

i know it was shown in cinema's, at least in europe. i honestly don't know, but i think HBO does not do that.

War of the Buttons?
House Arrest?

Those two were 90s movies though.

reply

thank you, but they are not it either.
it was just one set of parents and their kids. suburban neighbourhood if i remember right. i think i might have been a european movie. possibly french.

Sounds alot like the Dutch movie Schatjes!(Darlings!) from 1984.

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help.

BTW, the sequel Mama is boos! (1986) is also definitely worth a look. Although it's pretty hard to find.
