IN THE FUTURE, when AI recreates full historical events that were never recorded...
Will the latest generation think its pretty cool, or just stupid fake movies?

I could see history be rewritten based on cool looking fake videos, and people believing those without question, disregarding reality if history.

That entire concept sounds scary, because people in power could use it to "rewrite" history, hide away or destroy historical documents that disagree with it, and then trick people into thinking the AI-written trash is what really happened. Could you imagine how much fun people like Hitler, Stalin, Castro, and Kim Jong Un would have had if such tech were in their hands?

Talk about 1984 coming to fruition in real life!

sounds like something trump tards would do

AI would "recreate full historical events" but rather generate depictions of them based on previously existing media.

Your premise is a projection of ignorance.

I just watched a "video / film" of some astonaut's face in the capsule, while he was lisfting off and orbiting. I forget who, but I never saw this space footage before, and I thought I had seen everything. The quality was decent, kind of better than other films of that time frame, and I was thinking, "I wonder if this is nothing more than an AI creation that never existed before?" but it looked very legit. And it very well might be.

My question is based on youth today not really knowing if the footage is real or not. And like AG26 above said, this stuff will be (and already is) extremely influencial... even without full AI running rampent yet. And that is coming extremely soon, if not already happening. How do you know ANY media, news etc is real?

You think AI is only capable of manipulating existing media? Think again.

reply

I didn't say that. AI in its present form can only generate media based on what it's fed. Everything the algorithms generate stems from previously existing material.

"AI would "recreate full historical events" but rather generate depictions of them based on previously existing media."

Your premise is a nonsensical gibberish, given that your statement both agrees and disagrees with his.

Your post is a projection of nihilistic apathy towards effective communication.

How would it be recreating a historical event if the event wasn't created or otherwise recorded on existing media in the first place?

reply

By suggestions. Not sure what you are asking here? It can create, edit, mix videos.... lets say it recreated some historical event, as a general video dramatization, but altered some significant perspective of it.... I'm no history buff, so making up some random thing here.... say, Napleon supports Isreal or something like that... will these idiot kids that think the internet is real, pick up on that and start to believe it into existance?

Let's say AI bots and fake profiles start posting crap on facebook to affect social attitudes toward AI and or politics, Facebook spreads crap people believe faster than news or rumor... people forward assuming true and people start believing en mass. I have seen this happen.

Take that and apply it to historical events. Maybe the film or video created is nothing more than a recreation, but lets say AI twists part of it to change peoples minds. that's what I am talking about.

That's the basis for the Simulation Argument by Nick Bostrom. That a society eventually achieves technical maturity and uses tech--in your example AI--to create a historical ancestor simulation to observe their own history, among other things.

One possibility is they create multiple simulations, each with slightly different versions of their history.

I feel like people are having trouble processing the truth in history NOW, without all this new confusion. I can't imagine how they will take it when they already believe complete, non-factual nonsense on tiktok.

reply

History will be written by whatever group of people control things.

What's going on in the Middle East is going to be recorded in one of two ways 100 years from now and it won't be AI taking a balanced approach to facts - it'll be whoever is stills standing and at the top saying what happened.
