If Earth became one nation, where should the capital be?

I can think of a few possibilities for the capital of this hypothetical Earth nation:

Africa: It is the birthplace of humanity - the "dominant" species on Earth. Maybe one of the big cities there such as Mombasa and Nairobi would be a good place for the capital.

Middle East: Jerusalem is the holy city for the Abrahamic Religions - two of which make up the majority of humanity. Baghdad is a major city in the "cradle of civilization": Mesopotamia.

Europe: The region where democratic ideas first originated. Some of the big cities there could be good for a capital such as London or Paris.

North America: New York is currently the city where United Nations headquarters is at.

Others: Maybe another big city such as Tokyo, Rio De Janiero, or Sydney?

In my science fiction story I'm working on, I picked Mombasa as the capital of the "United Earth" nation.

I'd choose Mumbai. The most populous city in the most populous nation on the most populous continent.

reply

Sounds like a good choice!

reply

I second this.

Antarctica - it's the only place where politics belongs

reply

Heh...I do understand the sentiment, though.

reply

HaHa, this made me giggle:)

reply

LOL Antarctica? You read my mind! It was the first thing that came to mind. I thought we could drop all the politicians there where they couldn't bother anyone.

reply

It would probably be NYC or Geneva, but it's hard to say for sure.

reply

Maybe, based on the locations of the current United Nations places....

reply

Yeah that's what I was thinking. If it were up to me I would go with Geneva, but who knows what the people in charge would choose.

reply

Geneva is a great choice since Switzerland has always been a neutral country and international conventions are routinely held there. Plus it's high in the Alps and hopefully above it all.

NYC is the world's financial and cultural capital. But you need to remove government from that environs.

My personal favorite would be Lhasa, Tibet - austere and remote.

The English were and are a Germanic people.

My great grandfather was an austere and wealthy German immigrant who owned half of Nebraska. He also never spoke a word of English. As a child my mother was terrified of him.

reply

TimeTunnel is a real German and lives in Germany.

Germany did not "die". It runs the EU now and after Brexit and the UK left the EU, Germany runs continental Europe. Hitler may be dead but his dream of a Fourth Reich lives on.

reply

The EU is the not the reich please educate yourself Germany is ashamed of Nazis history please i have German heritage i should know this

reply

My great grandfather was German. Almost all Americans have some German heritage. We're a nation of mutts, hence why we are so powerful.

"Reich" is not a negative or fascist term. It just the German word for "realm" or an era of strength and unity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reich

First Reich - Holy Roman Empire

Second Reich - Unification of the German states which ended in World War I

Third Reich - Nazi (They conquered all of Europe. Love 'em or hate 'em, it was a REICH!)

Just be objective.

I have a political reason myself for calling German power in the EU the "Fourth Reich". Frankly, I hate the EU. It's a globalist monster. And nations like France and Italy and my motherland Greece have all ceded their power to Germany.

The Fourth Reich is not a good thing. I never said it was. It was Hitler's dream which the EU has brought to fruition.

Jerusalem is the holy city for the Abrahamic Religions

Oh hell no. I'm so sick of that bullshit.

reply

Agreed.
I would also prefer Sodom and Gomorrah. 👍

reply

I'm developing my own branch of queer theory which posits Sodom & Gomorrah as the beginning of the gay rights movement. đŸ¤Ŗ

Okay, so maybe not there....

Have you seen this video? It's San Francisco 4 days before the earthquake.

Actually I was looking for an old earthquake-movie we watched when I was a child.
The song is unforgettable...since yesterday it's in my ears.
San Francisco sung by Jeanette MacDonald (movie 1936)

She also sung it heading a crowd, showing strength in all the trouble, marching forward...very impressive. â™Ĩ Perhaps that was the moment our older sister decided to become an exchange student.
Maybe my memory is wrong, I cannot find this scene.
It was somewhat like in the ending, but there's only the melody after the 'Glory'.
And a little demolished Clark Gable with ketchup on his head. â˜ē

I like old tunes. They don't pop-up in movies and TV shows anymore.

Yah...kids, adults, dogs, cats, wolves...*sigh*
I still like cars though. â™Ĩ

However, for some areas/cities it'll come (earthquakes).
We don't know when exactly.
