question: do you WANT female actions stars?

with the uptick of waifish 90lbs women kicking the crap out of many professionally trained 230lb men in action movies, what I am asking is....

DO WOMEN WANT FEMALE ACTION STARS?

DO MEN WANT FEMALE ACTION STARS?

please post up your sex and your opinion/interest on this.
I'm fine with "make whatever movie you want", but curious who really wanted female action stars? It's fine they exist, but never once in my life experience with women were they ever interested in a FEMALE James Bond, or a FEMALE action star. Most told me they go to action films with their man to support HIS interests, but sometimes they are fun.

UPDATE:

sounds like everyone is all for it, one degree or another. various tastes, examples, options.
BUT, what my question failed, sadly, to navigate is that NO ONE in today environment would likely speak their mind if they were not a fan. IE don't sound sexist or misogynist by not supporting women and say you dont like it or care for it. these are the days of "support everyone" regardless of personal tastes. and that's fine too. I was just curious where there are so many of them now.
Actually seems like mostly men replied (because more men are on here anyway) and just a couple women, so, no, the women were not lining up to beg for kick ass women led movies.

reply

I'm male and I prefer female action stars over male action stars.

I was about 8 or 9 when I saw "Aliens" for the first time. It was my favourite movie as a kid and I saw it so many times that I feel as if Sigourney Weaver is the first action star.

Of course! Why not?

I'm male, and I echo samoanjoes here. Aliens is one of my all-time favourite films.

Also, as an aside, the more vulnerable the action hero, the more sympathetic/empathetic they are. Women being physically weaker on average is not a bad thing in *this* context. It makes it easier to root for them as the lead. All one asks is that the action scenes are done in as believable and credible a manner as possible (which generally requires some wit and ingenuity on the filmmakers' part).

reply

Female, and why not?

I don't want a female remake of an already established character. I want more Ripleys, Sarah Connors, Foxy Browns, or anything Michelle Yeoh.

reply

^This!^

fully agree

reply

Male. And why not? But here's the thing, most of the time Hollywood would remake the male lead films, the focus ain't on the writing but on the fact that it's a gender bent remake

A good movie is a good movie no matter the gender of the lead. I want female action stars in GOOD movies.

this 1000

thing is, there has been a recent rash of forgettable, phoned in female action films... not sure why, wondered if WOMEN have been begging for a masculine acting female lead? I never saw Ripley acting masculine, just getting things done that needed done. And that made for successful movie making. Not, kicking everyone's butt because the script says so. EARNED kick assedness.

reply

I hate when they're like "character can't cry/show emotion" or get hurt cause they're strong & shit.

Just look at John Wick. He's already one of the most iconic action heroes & guess what? He constantly gets his ass kicked & would've actually died numerous times if he wasn't being saved by allies.

Give us good writing & vulnerable characters that actually "feel human"

reply

Male.

Watching fit women kick all kinds of ass onscreen is cool! As for the size thing, realism is not something I look for in these movies 😊

(I was going to say so long as the movies are good - but then I remembered I've watched the hell out of all the Underworld and Resident Evil movies! 😂)

I still defend the first 3 films of both franchises as being hella entertaining.

Even when they became shite, Milla Jovovich & Kate Beckinsale were both fun to watch

They both make great & believable action stars

reply

The first Resident Evil is actually a pretty good horror movie. There are some pretty creepy scenes in the Hive underground. After that they seemed to lean more and more into the action side of things.

reply

Same with Underworld movies. The first 2 are genuinely good monster flicks imo

Both franchises take the ridiculousness to the nth degree in later films though

reply

Apart from the security system that opens all the doors when the power goes off. That was fucking stupid.

The scene with the lasers slicing everyone up was hilarious though.

I’m a woman and…

I’m okay with action heroines but honestly I prefer a male hottie as an action star like Chris Hemsworth or Brad Pitt in his prime.

reply

I appreciate your honesty.
As much as I'm fine with female action stars, as a guy, I just don't relate to the women kicking butt. Maybe I see myself as the guy kicking butt and can't see myself as a woman kicking butt?? I don't know. Women do fine, just not my thing in action movies.

I just wondered if there were a lot of women wanting to see women in action kick butt roles, as opposed to the YA YAY SISTERHOOD TRAVERLING PANTS whatever type stuff.

reply

There are some cool heroines like Wonder Woman or Scarlet witch. Before this horrific phase 4. Also black widow was kind of cool

But I go to action flicks for my male eye candy and swooning for the male hero.

Here is a funny story when I was first a fan of the MCU I was a Downey girl 100%. My type was 100 % manly man or sophisticated silver foxes like Pierce Brosnan, RDJ, Clooney, Sean Connery in his prime.

But lately my taste in men I’m becoming more of a blondes kind of ken Dolls, now my favorite MCU Hottie is Hemsworth,I have a huge crush on Jon Bon Jovi in his prime, if I see Troy again I will be telling you Brad Pitt was the hottest and when I first watched it my man was Eric Bana.

My type was sophisticated or elegant manly men and now Im into the blondes.

reply

You don't find blondeness on a man effeminate?

reply

Nope. Not at all.
It’s how they carry themselves and their charisma which makes a guy manly.

reply

I’m a straight bloke, but Chris Hemsworth is my man crush.
