How would you rate this girl's performance singing a cover of this hit pop song ?

Lucy Thomas ( she was 15 years old here and that was three years ago ) singing the Justin Bieber hit 10,000 Hours

Here is the Justin Bieber version for comparison. Sounds like they used auto-tune to me.

Which version do you prefer ?

How do you rate Lucy's cover of the song, her singing and her performance ?

Do you think she could she make it into the big time ?

And who does she look like ?

if it was a beatles song i would give it a listen.

Give her a go, I guarantee she will surprise you. Her mother Louise is a singer and so is Lucy's younger sister Martha. Lucy has had professional training since she was 7.

She has her own website LucyThomasMusic.com where she sells her CD's ( physical CD's and digital downloads ) and she has her own Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3CKhThVWDaprcb3IcnXDfg with over fifty song videos to look at and listen to. There are seven or eight duets with her ( nearly six years younger ) sister Martha as well. The most recent video has the mother and both daughters singing Charlie Chaplin's ' Smile ' so you can see and hear where the daughters get their talent from.

Way better than the original. I hate pop music and she definitely towned down the pop in her version.

reply

Yes and she has a simpler backing arrangement which allows her remarkable singing voice to stand out front and shine.

reply

I think she knew the chorus in the original song made it worse and she decided to only slightly move up the tempo compared to the verse.

reply

Well picked up. She has only slightly quickened the tempo but her version certainly bounces along and is "catchier" than Bieber's.

reply

Very nice. I can see her flourishing in the modern country realm. Right look, right voice.

reply

She's from Wigan in England but yes I think you're probably right that American Country music fans would love her. You can see from the way she performs the song to camera that she knows how to engage with an audience in an appealing way.

reply

I like the original better, but it's not my kind of music either way.

reply

I really liked it. I wasn't familiar with her or the song, but she definitely has a beautiful singing voice. Very well done! (I have to say, I can't believe she was just 15 in that video...I think she could have passed for early 20s!).

She was three months short of her sixteenth birthday but I know what you mean. She is advanced well past her age in terms of the maturity of her performance and her singing. Her mastery of singing technique is incredible for that age.

The Charismatic Voice is a trained opera singer and vocal coach who has a Youtube channel where she does voice analysis and she did one on Lucy singing Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' which is quite interesting if you like the more technical side of things:

Thank you for posting that! I will watch the complete video later tonight...yes, I'm sure I will find her analysis interesting.

It seems like she could very well be destined for great things. She has such a beautiful voice...best of luck to Lucy!

She's got a nice voice, the song is awful.

reply

Definitely Lucy over Bieber. Beautiful voice and I especially enjoy the simplicity of this video. No flashy effects and jumpy camera movements - just her voice and her. I like to be able to see the performer doing their thing, not all that other stuff. To me, if you need the flashy, techie stuff, you're probably not as good as you think you are.

reply

Music videos were definitely a mixed blessing. Great to be able to see as well as hear the performers but it was also when style started to overtake substance.

And Lucy is doing that old fashioned thing, singing to her audience, lots of eye contact. You can't beat it.
