Do you or do you know anyone ever hit by a car?

Can you share about the experience?

I ask because I am worried about a co-worker, she got hit by a car last Thursday (about 9 days ago) when she was walking home... that moment she remained conscious and texted us that she was with her sister, but could not get up and was not going to be able to come to work.

That is all we know and haven't heard from her in the following 8 days... no text, no calls.

The first couple of days we were thinking she probably got surgery and can't be reached, maybe she's under painkillers/drugs/something that keeps her dozing off? But 8 days?

We are concerned that maybe her accident was extremely bad, maybe she is in a coma... we hope she is still alive. I was planning on reaching out again soon.

Did she contact Human Resources or the boss? If not, you can text and ask if she's ok.

I know many people hit by a car, but each is different. It could be a minor injury, broken bone(s) or instant death.

I guess your co-worker's sister would have called the place to tell your boss that she was in a coma or something like that. Since you haven't heard anything, I'm guessing she just needs time to get better. Maybe she's having trouble walking and can't come in yet.

Your supervisor probably knows more, as an extended medical leave in today's world involves paperwork and dealing with HR. However, neither your boss nor you nor your co-workers have any legal right to have medical information, so if she hasn't been in touch with someone to say how she's doing then you can't ask for medical details. But it's okay to ask the boss when X will be returning to work, of if she's sent any information she's willing to share with the staff.

Honestly, I'm amazed that the office busybody hasn't organized card signings and gift baskets and PTO donations. There's always one.

I know a couple of people who got hit by a car. Different experiences. Some minor, some not.

My lil bro (the youngest) was hit a car about a decade ago. Fractured his left leg. They did surgery on it.

Was in the hospital for about 2 weeks.

did she suffer a head injury?

reply

I did not know... but she finally texted its just her lower leg and ankle... says she will require another surgery but will recover.

I got hit by a car while on my bike. I just scrapped my knee but had to pay for major repairs on my bike.

As a fellow cyclist, I can understand and am sorry that has happened to you.

I can also empathize because that has happened to me twice where I was just nudged or slightly bumped to the curb because the asshole drivers did not see me.
(Thankfully no injuries or repairs though.)

If you do not already and you are still out there biking, get a whistle. A loud one, like the kind sports referees use, with a string you can wear around your neck and do not be afraid to use it whenever you think there is a risk or to be sure they know you are there.

I had music in my ears when it happened. After that happened I'll never have music playing with headphones on while I'm on the road with other cars ever again.

Yes, I got hit by a car. I was crossing in a cross walk with a green walk light and some lady makes a reckless right turn and hits me. I purposely jumped on her hood so I wouldn't get run over. Afterwards I was stunned and sitting in the middle of the street. I couldn't get up and move either. But it sounds like she was conscious like me after it happened.

Yeah, I came out of that bruised up but was out of the hospital in 2 hours. I made a hundred thou off of that. 🤣 Crazy lady.
