*****Academy Awards Thread - Will you watch the opening?
yes. just to see how they deal with last year's debacle.
shareyes. just to see how they deal with last year's debacle.
shareEverything Everywhere All At Once wins best picture, bringing its total to 7 Oscars.
shareThis will be forgotten. I don't get it.
shareI doubt it will be forgotten. It's pretty memorable and distinctive.
shareI don't get why this movie is so special. It was meh.
shareI think it's about making the filmmakers the next big thing. Like reputation forging. I don't see many big opportunities for the actors. This cred will fizzle out fast.
shareHave you seen it?
sharei haven't. you think anyone remembers last year's winner? coda, i think it was.
shareWell you seem to remember All Quiet on the Western Front and that won in 1930.
There are a lot of best picture winners that I didn't like, or that I don't really care to remember, but there are an awful lot that I remember. Honestly, I disagreed with almost every winner in the 1990s. Silence of the Lambs and Schindler's List being the exceptions. But I still remember every one.
I think with a movie like EEAAO, even if you hate it, I don't really think that it's a movie that's forgettable. If you are meaning that the award itself will be forgotten, maybe? But this was an original, that doesn't fit in any genre. CineFix described it as a Sci-fi/ kung-fu/action/comedy/existential family drama movie. I can't think of many others that fit that description. It was nice to see something different.
I remember CODA.
shareIf will be forgotten everywhere all at once.

Ever since the Oscars So White controversy, I don't watch. I'm not interested in being lectured about my white privilege from a bunch of privileged celebrities.
shareThe Oscars must have gotten too black, because this year they were yellow. I completely agree with you though. Reward talent regardless of color, and if that happens to be a majority white, tough shit. Maybe whites are more predisposed to be interested in the film world. Nobody calls out the NBA for being too black.
shareI never even heard of this war movie. From the comments of the winners it was a german film that went straight to netflix? Surprised such a thing was cleaning up so good.
shareReally? This was based on the classic film “All Quiet on The Western Front” (1930). There was another version made in 1979.
sharethe original is considered a classic.
shareWhen Kimmel was interviewing the Arabian activist I could hear Trump’s voice in my head saying ‘Disaster’.
shareNo, when are they taking place?
