Famine

I recently watched a video about what Stalin did to Ukraine people in 1931-1932. He basically confiscated food from farmers and let them starve to death. It was the Holodomor. The video is below if you want to see it. 👇

So basically I'm wondering how possible for it is to happen around here. I mean think about all the trains crashing and spilling chemicals. Maybe contaminated food supplies and such. Next thing you know there is a food shortage. Neighbors turning on each other. Scary stuff.

Someone won one of the biggest Nobel prizes for analyzing famines in the modern capitalist world, and how they usually work is that there isn't a genuine widespread food scarcity... but large numbers of people are not able to *afford* food. This is easy to read up on, a quick google will point you in the right direction.

As to how it might happen here... well, we're already at the point where millions of my fellow citizens are unable to afford housing, and are living in vehicles or on the street. We don't live in a society that feels obligated to make sure everyone has the basic necessities.

I just think back to toilet paper, when all the hoarders bought it out. What if that happens with food?
