Do you believe in the afterlife?

Do you think there is such a thing as heaven? Where we will get together with our loved ones, like Valhalla for the vikings where they get together with fallen warriors to drink mead together in the Great Hall. Or that there is an ultimate source like a giant ball of energy ( God ) , where once we die we turn into energy and merge with it, to be reborn again without any memory of our previous life. Or do you think once we die it's just lights out, ride is over. I'm curious what you guys think. If you have something smart to say, just save it. I'm not interested in troll type answers.

I believe there is some sort of universal "mind". We are all part of "god", for lack of a better word. But to believe our identity is preserved in the afterlife would be to assume every flea and rat survives death as well. That's just foolish. There is a "god" but he regards us as no more than a rat.

I kind of like to think that the nature of what we as human beings call "God" is half-external theistic, & half internal non-theistic. And the problem we keep getting into is when we concentrate too much on one aspect over the other. We're all looking for some semblance of balance between the two.

There is obviously some holistic mechanism behind all of the universe. When we call it "god" we anthropomorphize it. There is no Big Zeus. But there is some order to all this.

I don't believe "theistic" anything. That's mythology.

I'm curious what you mean by "half internal non-theistic"?

Basically, there are those that believe that what we call "God" all comes from something inside ourselves that is not "seperate" or outside our being. Call it non-theistic, or secular, if you will.

Yes, that's what I believe. We are all part of this "mega-thing" that orders the universe. The religion which comes closest to the truth is Hinduism, which regards everything as part of Brahma's dream. So when we die, our ego may die, but our essence is still there.

For a human to understand this is sorta like a dog trying to understand Einstein's theory of relativity. It's impossible.

Not really. I mean that would be great I guess, but I think it's just lights out like when you go to sleep. You may dream a little, but most of it is just darkness that you have no memory of. I'm not a hard no at all. I do think maybe there is a spirit or soul that can linger or something that can bleed over into our reality like ghosts. To me it's certainly possible, but I'm skeptical and it all may just be darkness and that's it.

I'm a Christian and have been since before I can remember. It makes more sense to me that God created the world than it just happening randomly. I believe you either accept God and his son Jesus and go to heaven by doing so in life. Or you reject them and thereby choose to go to Hell for all eternity.

Just seems like an unfair ultimatum.

In the short time you are on earth you either believe in a bunch of stuff written and told by other men via word-of-mouth which has not only been interpreted in drastically different ways, but also have versions that were later revised by some in power, or burn in fire and be molested or whatever by demons for eternity.

You are right, its not a choice, and therefore not an ultimatum. God chooses who he saves, faith is a gift from God to those he elects to save.

My nephew talked about a past life when he was 2 years old.
a story of being in war and he was left in a trench. he was very upset.
he would repeatedly say "i dont want to talk about it" it was creepy as fuck.
i didnt want to push him about it. but asked a few questions:
did you have a uniform? yes.
what color was it? blue
did you have a gun? yes
what did it look like? it was long with a knife on the end.
the hairs on my neck stood up.
a month later. he had a seizure, stopped breathing, was revived. never talked about it again.

if i wasnt there i wouldnt believe it myself. i still wonder if it couldve been his imagination from some toy, doll, or movie that could push him to that extent. but he was so emotionally invested in the story is what really got to me.

i told my sister to record it. it was in the early '90s but she had a camcorder. it didnt take long for her to tell me to back off with questions when he became visibly shaken.
