Seems like it's going the way of imdb. Getting to be so many posts by trolls that are being douches on purpose, generally complaining about things being "too woke" or "not woke enough." Or politics. It'd be nice if everyone could knock it off so it doesn't just shut down like imdb was. Just a bummer, because all these years later, and this is the best successor I've found, and it's not even a tenth as great as imdb was in its heyday (I know, mods, you're trying, and like I said, it's the best, so not throwing shade at you). And it's taken time to build up. Anything I've found that's more active tends to be for a specific show or something and who has time for that. Probably trolls.

It will never move beyond being 75% trolls and people/bots posting far right conspiracy theories and other nonsense. That's because the moderators allowed it to become this way, and normal entertainment fans are automatically scared away. Meanwhile, they won't ban any of these trolls because the site would no longer have traffic.

I first came to this site years ago because of the historical imdb discussion. But the original posters aren't here, so there are few thoughtful people here to discuss movies and TV with. Sadly, that won't change.

And as for far left, you are right you're not far left, unless you are a socialist and an anti-capitalist like me, you are not on the left. Having said that, there is also the "cultural left", these are woke dunderheads who are obsessed with identity, diversity, and policing other people's language. And if that is what he meant by "left", then he is correct. You sound like an insufferable Wokester. Your woke sanctimony and your ideology is really off-putting, dare I say repulsive, to even a far left socialist like me.

I've quit this site for many of those reasons. But mostly because I can't hang around ignorant people for very long.

There are DEFINITELY some intelligent, insightful, respectful thinkers here, and I enjoyed my interactions with them. But, there are too many blindly hypocritical, sjw, thought police, woke, insane, "progressive brainwashed leftist" types to bother wasting my time with. Life's far too short. :)

I know I'm not missed and nor do I care. This is the internet - which is MOSTLY a sea of shit anymore, and I have the CHOICE to not swim in it. :D

Do you mean "insightful?" Because most of what I find here are "inciteful" (which means: provoking someone to commit a crime) middle-aged, white men angry about minorities appearing in movies. Yes, life is far too short.

This board in general (I don't do much in the politics forum) is great. A very low level of trollishness.

I don't see any serious problem at all. Perhaps because I've seen so much worse elsewhere.

I don't do much in the politics board either. I mean more where anything comes out that has more than two people who are non-white and non-straight and people get all "Wah, it's being forced down my throat!" kinda stuff.

There is some of that, sure. I'm far from a righty, but even I get tired of bossy macho women ordering men around like they are serfs - especially in a historical setting.

The PC thing is real.

That's one of the reasons I like old movies so much. But then, I'm not young myself. Maybe its a bit of, on my part, an old dog not loving new tricks.

I have NO problem, though, giving minorities of all hues & cultures a crack at historical roles their ethnicity or race would have excluded them from at the time. That's a different thing entirely, and people complaining about it are imo dense in many respects, mainly in regard to fairness & inclusion.

This might be a false dichotomy. I see many topics on this site that serve as examples of the former, but would you be able to produce any examples of discourse on this site which use that latter phrase?

Any public forum will have its share of posters you don’t care for. Overall MC has been pretty solid, the trolls seem to arrive in waves and flame out quickly enough.

Thank you for your positive response, you make a good point. I don't like censorship, but I also just don't like wading through the muck. I wish that those who don't actually want to engage in considerate and thoughtful discussion on movies and TV, without needless personal/social/political bashing, would just stay off, but yeah, can't have the good without the bad I suppose. I guess I more just wanted to vent and see if people would agree with me, or if I was just being sensitive/in my head about it. And no one has said anything I can recall lately to really annoy/hurt me. And if they do, I don't have an issue using the block button. Not because I need everything to be an echo chamber, I don't. On facebook I have numerous friends with views different than mine on certain issues, but it works because we have respectful dialogue and don't bash each other. I guess because we actually know each other, here it's more anonymous. I block just because it's irritating and I don't want to deal with people who are clearly insistent on a conversation going nowhere.
