Have you ever lost something really important?

Yesterday I mowed the grass, cleaned the garage, weeded the courtyard, trimmed the hedges, raked the leaves and carried a bunch of firewood…at some point I lost my wedding band…again.

This is the third wedding ring I’ve lost in 18 years…I’m a klutz!

Luckily my Lady laughed it off…but I’ll hear about this forever…

Did you ever lose anything really important?

I've lost my mind years ago.

I once made a DVD where I saved video files of random family videos that dated back to the 90s and early 00's. Many people who have died had appeared on those videos. One day I realized that I hadn't seen that disc for a while so I began searching for it. I was honestly disappointed in myself because I'm the guy who backs up everything.

Thankfully, 3 years later when I was clearing out my computer desk, I saw that it somehow accidentally went into the middle of a bunch of blank DVD's that I had planned on throwing out because I don't use DVD's anymore. The first thing I did was make digital backups on a flash drive and an external hard drive. I wouldn't have been able to live it down that I lost the only footage I had of certain people.

That’s great, I’m glad you retrieved the recordings.
The family and friends vids would be a big loss, I’m happy to hear you found them…I still have my old dusty photos of my old-timers.
My Nanny, my old neighborhood, little kids on sleds…The old days.

It’s really late and dark, you should watch them videos now and love those people you loved years ago, they might be gone but remembering them is a proper way to respect them.

reply

I watch them often. It's great to see how much hair I once had

reply

I hear you, it’s good to remember the old days.

Also, I’m in the ‘Ed Harris Club’ in terms of the hairline as well…I may as well go full Kojak with what I’m working with over here😆

This post reminds me to get round to updating family videos, I have a ton still on VHS. But no VHS player! I'd be gutted if I lost them. I'm glad to hear you finally found yours!

About 10 years ago, I had a lot of free time during the summer and I scanned every single photo I had and made a backup. It took a really long time and it was annoying, but I'm glad I did it. If you can afford to spend money on a VCR solely to use it to back up for family videos, I'd say definitely go for it. Make copies and leave them on your computer, external hard drive and flash drives. The family videos I thankfully found are on my computer and two separate external hard drives. I'm not going to have that problem again.

reply

Scanning photos is also something I need to do, I have some family pics that are over 100 years old, putting everything on a couple of external hds or usb drives sounds like a good idea. 👍

Buy a metal detector. Maybe you'll find all three!

I lost a pocket knife once. Can't say it was "really important," but I liked it enough to go search for it at the State Park the next day. As my Grandfather once said, a good knife should last a lifetime.

reply

My Sonny-boy has a metal detector, I offered him a reward of $20 bucks if he can locate the dang ring, he was out there all day, it’s certainly on the property…

I’m a clumsy dope but at least my lost wedding band isn’t on a bed table in some sleazy New Jersey motel LOL!

My wife does have a lot of patience😃

reply

Maybe he got more than $20.00 for it at the pawn shop! 😜

reply

Ha!
Luckily the kid is too honest to pull shenanigans like that😄

reply

I know exactly where your ring is

the last place you look

reply

That’s always true!

Could you not just take it off whilst doing yard stuff?

I take mine off every time I go to the gym otherwise the weights bar will grind against it.

reply

I told my wife after losing the first two that I’d never take off the newest ring again.

I lost my first ring on my honeymoon, snorkeling in a really cool lagoon in Mexico, I was chasing a pretty school of fish and the sunblock made my fingers all slippery, it just slid off into the water. I lost the second ring working on one of my Yonkers houses…after that I never took the third one off.

The damn thing is somewhere out on the grass or down in the cellar or out in the barn…I’m going to order a $20 tin ring because I’m sure to lose it again, I’m a big dummy!

reply

The tradition in Indonesia is no engagement ring (so I got lucky there, lol) and the two wedding bands combined has to equal 10 grams. Well, Mrs K has very dainty fingers, so her ring is only 2 grams, whereas mine is a more impressive 8 grams.

Even when you're at the gym you're talking about a bar.

reply

It’s in my blood.

reply

As long as it doesn't stay there when the cop pulls you over.

reply

I either drink or I drive, I never do both.

reply

Nice to hear. There are too many assholes out there.

I feel it more when I lose something that was a present, rather than something I bought myself.
... like the towel I've had for years that I left in a spanish hotel a couple weeks ago

I had a coworker who was visiting his mother in Arizona. He lost his wedding band while doing some yard work for her. He would visit her maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Whenever he did, he would go out in the yard with a rake. This went on for a couple years during which he had replaced the ring.
One time he started out and his mother said he didn't have time to do yard work, they were expected elsewhere. He told her why and her response: That reminds me. She walked into her kitchen and pulled a jar off the shelf with his ring in it. She had found it years ago but had forgotten to tell him.

Bunch of us tease him that she probably hid it for the free yard work all those years.

Ha!
Smart old Lady😁
