Saudi Arabia's CITY OF THE FUTURE

https://youtu.be/0kz5vEqdaSc

When I first saw this video I thought it was some trailer for a forthcoming sci-fi on Netflix!

But no, initial earthwork began in October 2021, and it is expected that residents will begin moving to the Line by the year 2030.

Would you visit or even live and work there?

It does look like Science Fiction - usually the setting for some dystopian vision. I suppose in reality it's not much different than living and working in the middle of a big city - but I wouldn't want to live there either.

reply

I'd visit but not for longer than a week or two, and if it were built in another location. I've little interest in visiting countries where women are discriminated against, exploited, and treated unequally.

It reminds me of a concept envisioned by architect Paolo Soleri (1919-2013) in which cities were planned to work with the environment rather than against it. He called it "arcology." One of his blueprints even featured a vertical city.

This is an example of what could be achieved if we would put our brainpower, time, energy, money and resources to good use. The climate change and energy problems could be solved. It's the 21st Century and we need to stop regressing and get back on track towards making forward progress.

I would be interested in seeing it, but I don't travel. And I would not want to live in Saudi Arabia because of the heat and no change of seasons. But I support this project 100% and would like to see something like this in the U.S.

Interesting, I looked up his videos on YouTube, I'd not seen them before.

Insane

I see this on promoted tweets on Twitter all the time. It looks like a great concept, but let's see what the execution looks like.

Certainly a place I would visit, but I'm not sure I'd live there.

reply

Cool, but I don't anticipate doing anything in 2030 -- my travel days are long over.

Now if I get an offer I couldn't refuse, I'd pack up in a few months, although I'm sick of the heat/sun. But if I got this offer, I could always live in 40% of the world within 6 hours.

Meanwhile, American trains are the slowest in the world, going about 40mph, while the Japanese and Chinese trains are so much faster, and better overall.

reply

Interesting - I might visit it as part of a stopover, but Saudi Arabia is not a country I'm rushing to visit.

reply

I look forward to reading about your update on these very forums in the year 2035!

reply

We'll see - alcohol fee counties are unappealing.

What country has the best beer?

reply

My personal favourites: -
Tsing Tao - China
Peroni - Italy
Kirin - Japan
Asahi - Japan
Warsteiner - Germany
Estrella - Spain
Guinness - Ireland (technically a stout, I know).
Birra Moretti - Italy
Kronenbourg 1664 - France
San Miguel - Spain

reply

American favorite? Just curious.

reply

Samuel Adams

reply

From this study I conclude the Axis powers lost WWII because they were drunk far more than the allies because they had better beer!

reply

Maybe I should extend it to a top 20.

reply

Even where Kronenbourg 1664 was brewed became a territory annexed to the Third Reich!

reply

Plus, Ireland was neutral.

reply

Spain were fascist.

Interesting!

He's cooking spaghetti, just to pasta time.

reply

But can he core a apple?

reply

This is Neom, not the Big Apple!
