Your thoughts on Indian food? Yay or nay?

I really like garlic Naan and chole.

reply

Indian breads are great, my fave is poori, better known as "puffy bread."

My favorite entrées are the chicken selections, especially tikka masala and tandoori.

reply

Tandoori chicken and rice. Yum!!!

I believe Indian food is a staple in the UK? Am I right, AndyKing?

reply

It sure is. I’d hate to guess how many Indian restaurants are within a 3 mile radius of where I live (at least 50 I reckon).

reply

Sounds like my neck of the woods.

I'm a fan of chaat, and there is a great Dosa place down the road from me.

reply

Yay - but I prefer Chinese, Indonesian, Italian, Thai.

Delicious. As much variety as all of Italian cuisine. Not many people know that Indians created Yogurt as a counterpoint to their incendiary dishes. I think Gulab Jamon is the best Desert in the world. Basmati rice: yum. Cooking in ghee (clarified butter)? Pure genius.

Beware of “curry powder.” There are more than 3,000 curries in Indian cooking. The “curry powder” at your local Stop and Swipe does not BEGIN to do them justice.

A big YAY for me. Love a good curry 😋

Indian or Thai curry?

reply

Both! I should say though that I’m the most unfussy eater you could meet, there’s very few foods I don’t enjoy.

reply

Their stuffed breads should have a national franchise created for them.

reply

The best. My ultimate comfort cuisine.

reply

Haven't had it for ages. It's ok but all the dishes are similar and the same colour.

As a cuisine overall, not for me. There's a lot of good, don't get me wrong, it's more about my bland and uncultured flavor palette really. The balance of flavors seems a little off for my taste, a little too extreme. Sweets are too sweet and hot/spicy dishes are sometimes "over-hot", like unpleasantly hot to the point of losing all actual flavour. The western classics like Naan and like butter chicken are mild though, and of course curries can be curated to your personal taste, so if you're looking to try something, go for the most popular dishes.

I think that's why I love Thai food so much, because of how well the flavours are balanced (again, according to my taste).

reply

It's good, but not the very spicy stuff.
