Tham Luang cave rescue

In June and July 2018, a junior association football team was rescued from the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand. Twelve members of the team, aged eleven to sixteen, and their 25-year-old assistant coach entered the cave on 23 June after a football practice session. Shortly thereafter, heavy rainfall partially flooded the cave system, blocking their way out, and trapping them deep within.

I see why they made the movie, its a really impressive rescue. The movie is well done.

25 June: Thai Navy SEAL divers enter the cave to search for the kids.

8 July: Thirteen international divers, led by five Thai military SEALs divers, four British and two Australian divers[108] went into the cave to begin bringing the boys to safety. The boys were each to be accompanied by three divers as they made their way out of the cave. The boys were also sedated to prevent any panic.

reply

If I remember correctly, one Thai diver died.

reply

Yeah, I'm on that scene now. The real thinkers are the Navy Seals who decided to sedate the kids for the 4 hour underwater journey. Everyone said they were crazy, but they found a solution. The movie is no frills, just tells it like it is. They pumped water out of the caves and flooded many villagers fields, killing all there crops. This may not sound like a lot, but these are people living in poverty.

reply

Yeah, what happened to the died diver? I read some conflicting news articles about him and I'm not sure which are real or just fake / exaggerated clickbaits. What does the movie say about his death?

reply

Its a small part of the movie, he died because he ran out of oxygen...it was a long dive..4 hours. In the movie and real life they have to sedate the kids to bring them out.

reply

Ok, so no details on HOW he ran out of oxygen... because some that I read said he refused to wear oxygen tanks or something like that which is impossible for a 4-hour dive. Did they not calculate the needed amount of oxygen correctly? Or an equipment failure?

reply

There's a documentary on Disney Plus (NatGeo wing) called "The Rescue", about the... rescue. It went into the reasons that brave man died, which I can't remember with this amount of sleep.

But the documentary goes into it.

reply

Here's the actual rescue divers from Australia meeting with the kids they rescued.

reply

I have this movie downloaded. I hear it's good.

reply

There's no way you'd think it was directed by Ron Howard, It plays like a documentary, very low key, but I'm loving it. Last 30 minutes to go.

reply

Ok the last 30 minutes is tense. They're fitting 8-14 year olds with oxygen masks, and sedating them, its unreal. I'm really glad I know how this ends.

reply

There's a reason they made this movie, no one would believe this happened if not. Its almost not possible, what they did to get these kids out.

This and all other movies has its own page on MovieChat. You are allowed to post there. https://moviechat.org/tt12262116/Thirteen-Lives

Someone has already posted THERE about what Ron Howard lied about, and what actually happened.

See A Beautiful Mind, where almost the whole movie by Ron Howard was a lie.

reply

Does the film include Elon Musk and that useless device he made them try just to insert his narcissistic ass into the story?

reply

Because that happened in real life! I remember reading the stories in news and joining the world in heaping scorn on the SOB! The richest fucking man in the world could have been very useful to the rescue effort, if he'd been willing to do something like pay for materials or flights to bring needed equipment, but no! He had to come and get in everyone's way trying to prove he was smarter than everyone and totally failing (his ideas were crap), and then when the rescuers went on doing something that might work instead of using his stupid ideas, he got nasty and called the rescuers pedophiles!

That alone could have earned him a lifelong place on my shit list, but of course he's done so many things that would have done that on her own. He's now in my Shit List Hall of Fame.

reply

On my list too.

reply

But is he in your Shit List Hall of Fame?

reply

He is, in my newly formed SLHOF. I predict this will get populated quickly.

reply

My shit list is long and varied, but my SLHoF isn't heavily populated, and probably never will be, it takes a LOT to earn a place!

But both Musk and Bezos have done it.
