Are dentists real doctors?

Or are they kinda "pseudo" docs?

reply

Yes, of course. My guess is that they are separate from MDs because of some historical reason. I think at one time people would go to the barber to get their teeth pulled.

reply

Yes. They have their own equivalent of an M.D.

reply

What about pharmacists? Optometrists?

reply

And chiropractors?

reply

Podiatrists? Pharmacists?

reply

Veterinarians?

reply

College professors with a PhD? And they demand to be called doctors?

reply

But they are the O.G. doctors. I mean, "doctor" originally means "teacher" anyway.

reply

But most people think of doctors as the ones who work in hospitals or clinics. Not college professors.

reply

True.

reply

Chiropractic is made up. It isn’t real medicine thats why you won’t see any real university have a chiropractic program. Chiropractic came up with their own schools that bestow the title of Dr. but it really doesn’t mean anything.

reply

So you know, because you obviously do not, anyone with either a medical degree or a doctoral degree is A DOCTOR.

You know very little of academia.

But you knew that. I hope.

reply

Of course they're real. Many people care more about their dental care than their overall health care, and put a lot more trusts in dentists then their GPs.

reply

"and put a lot more trusts in dentists then their GPs."

Really?

reply

Yeah, do you let your GP drill your gums?

reply

Of course they are, based on their qualifications after they finish their formal education. A dentist is referred to as a doctor specializing in oral health and who has earned either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree or a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.

reply

So how come you never hear people call pharmacists "doctors" then?

reply

Maybe because they don't actually know the pharmacist's full name?? I don't know mine. His name tag has only his first name on it.

reply

They could just say "doctor". For example, "Thanks for the prescription, doctor." NO ONE says that.

reply

Honestly, most of the time it's a pharmacy technician that hands me my Rx.

they have a bachelor's degree.
