Are dentists real doctors?

Or are they kinda "pseudo" docs?

reply

As if there were anyone on a site named MOVIEChat qualified to answer this question.

You are not silent enough.

reply

My husband's nephew is a dentist and yes he is a doctor because a dentist either gets a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Surgery(DDS), they are doctors like any others that choose an area of the body to specialize in. They choose to specialize in oral health.

reply

Hmm... healthy oral.

reply

I'd say "real"

reply

No, Dentistry is a serious science and a genuine medical degree.

Seriously, would you let Johnny down the block pound away at your choppers with a rubber mallet if you had a toothache?

Of course not, you’re not nuts!

Dentists can save peoples’ lives, I hear horror stories from people with bad teeth, my wife’s entire side of the family has bad teeth, thank God my kids inherited my big strong teeth.

reply

Of course they are. If anyone is a "pseudo doctor" it's general practitioners. What do they do other than prescribe drugs and refer you to other doctors? With access to the internet or some other type of "cheat sheet" that has an extensive list of symptoms and the drugs that treat them, pretty much anyone could do their job.

reply

Yeah, GPs made sense in the 70s/80s. But now everyone can look up stuff.

Not to mention, GPs aren't always right and they sometimes give misleading info.

"What do they do other than prescribe drugs and refer you to other doctors? "

This is true. Dentists do WAY more than that. GPs sounds like a boring, cushy desk job.

anti-dentite!

yeah dentists are real docs, not only that but they are some of the richest doctors. psychiatrists are the real "pseudo" docs. nothing but government backed drug dealers who peddle fucked up big pharma poison. dentists actually help people with their tooth issues, they are real doctors in my book

reply

Tooth abscess can kill you too. So they do life-saving procedures (root canals, extractions, etc) like a "real doctor" would.

reply

yeah my cousin is a dentist and i do think they are real doctors. psychiatrists are the real scum of the doctor world. i have more respect for street drug deals then the government backed ones pushing even more fucked up drugs

reply

DMT, you may know that most social workers have more training in clinical psychology than most psychiatrists. A psychiatrist is someone with an MD degree who is licensed to prescribe drugs to address emotional and/or psychological issues in a patient. Drugs are a bandaid: useful in cases of life-threatening situation, like potential suicide, but completely counterproductive in terms of long-term healing and growth. I have naught but contempt for psychiatry. If your primary care physician refers you to a psychiatrist , find a new primary care physician.

reply

yup tru dat

reply

yes. they perform vital medical procedures. they sometimes are the first to notice something going on in the mouth.
