Motley Crue
The Beach Boys
Van Halen
Jane's Addiction
Bon Jovi
Grateful Dead
KISS (it's not about not getting into, they're just bad and I'll fight anyone on this.)

Grateful Dead - aside from a few songs I just don't understand the appeal..

Green Day - same as above.

Neil Young - he's a great songwriter but his music grates on me.

This is what the world is lacking today !

reply

Well, it isn't exactly dance-able music, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh dear. I should have known that you'd find an appropriate retort to my answer! 🤭🤣

Actually, your link reminds me of this one:

I remember reading a comment from someone saying they were surprised at how much they enjoyed the "updated" version.

reply

Oh, those crazy Belgians.

reply

Yep. It was a number of years ago, but it was the first flashmob I saw.

reply

Came here to say this. Music doesn't get interesting for me until madrigals. For any music geeks, check out Carlo Gesualdo. Guy sounds avant-garde even today. Centuries ahead of his time. "Plange Quasi Virgo" is a favorite of his.

Wish I'd get more action on my movie-related posts, but I'll bite. I'll never cop to being part of the anti-plainchant lobby. Oops.

“Dolly Parton”

You are dead to me, Jones 😑

reply

DITTO.

Let’s just all agree that Dolly Parton is an untouchable…that woman has pipes! My wife and I played Dolly very late last night in my garage on my garage Alexa device, she has the voice of an angel, a voice like butter.

reply

“she has the voice of an angel”

That’s exactly how I always describe it! There is something about her pitch and tone that is decidedly heavenly. I often think it has a lot to do with her Appalachian upbringing. To me it’s like the human vocal version of a cool mountain stream. It’s a voice that just washes over you with its purity.

I can understand the argument that country music isn’t some people’s thing, but with Dolly that doesn’t really fit as a reason to dislike her when she has crossed over into so many different genres through her impossibly long career. She’s done pop, disco, techno, rockabilly, bluegrass, gospel.. and she’s made each genre fit her rather than changing to try and fit it. Indeed, Dolly purists know that a lot of her earliest work isn’t even traditional country, it’s more aligned to Americana/folk music.

Anyway I could go on for days about her brilliance, but suffice to say she is totally unique and there has never been, or I suspect will ever be, any artist quite like her. To me she deserves nothing but respect.

reply

Yeah, I really like Dolly Parton's music too.

Rolling Stones. I give them credit for longevity but I don't really get into their stuff anymore, probably wasn't ever much of a fan.
Madonna I used to like but I guess grew out liking of her music.

I do really like a lot of the 80s and 90s music like Final Countdown by band Europe, Neil Diamond is a huge favorite with me.

Some 60s music especially Righteous Brothers, great songs! I like a lot of the oldies rock from 60s through 80s.

reply

I think that's how I feel about Madonna too. It's like I grew up, but she never did.

reply

Yeah, It's like I grew up, but she never did. that's a good way of putting it.

reply

I like all of the music you mentioned , I guess I like the ‘Stones a bit more than you, they’ve just been so great for so long…I admire them a lot.

reply

Parton? Jennings? really?!?

Agree about Aerosmith (as you only the biggest hits), Kiss (all songs), Iggy Pop (all songs) and Sting (most songs).

reply

ALL Iggy songs?? Not even a shred of love for Lust For Life, Real Wild Child, Nightclubbing or Candy? To me they are all dead-set classics, even if I’m not a huge Iggy Pop fan myself.

reply

For me his biggest hits are even worse than his lesser known songs.

reply

I RESENT YOU REFERRING TO THOSE MUSICAL ACTS AS OLDER MUSIC.

Out in the garage when I’m tooling around or in the kitchen when I’m scrubbing pots these Alexa devices constantly kick me in the head!

I say ‘Alexa, play classic rock and it’s always Guns ‘N Roses or Skid Row!

…this stupid Alexa is harsh man:)

reply

The 70s were a pretty long time ago.

reply

I was late to liking Led Zeppelin. Not sure why.
