Reddit

Reddit is such a woke toilet that stating any reasonable opinion now gets you banned for wrongthink, and the mods are little Hitlers who ban anyone who doesn’t kiss the ring.

As you can imagine I didn’t last long and Reddit banned me completely from the site. Creepily, they know who I am even when I’m using a VPN (which raises worrying questions about how much data they’re mining)

Anyone know how to circumvent a full Reddit ban? I’ve got some unfinished business…

Anyone know how to circumvent a full Reddit ban? I’ve got some unfinished business…

This wouldn't be the sort of 'unfinished business' that involves garbage bags, cable ties, and digging large holes in remote areas of woodland at night, would it? 😞

reply

That’s some scary projection right there.

reply

How do you know they know who you are? Did they call you by your name when they banned you?

reply

As soon as I start a new account they ban it, even when I use a VPN, so perhaps they’re identifying me from my device? Or browser cookies?

reply

IP address has to be the only way.

reply

If he's using a VPN, then the IP isn't visible.

reply

I hear it's still possible, but more difficult to find out. I know 2 guys who use torrents and use a VPN and they got a statement of claim in the mail.

reply

Yeah, you really gotta know what you're doing if you want true anonymity and I don't fully understand it. If I were torrenting though, I wouldn't trust one of those free VPN's you can download for free. Many of them have servers here in the US and have no problems selling your info.

reply

did you change browsers? its probably browser cookies/identifiers

want to play it safe?
create a virtualbox and install ubuntu or a different flavor of linux, use a vpn in that virtaul machine, make it specifically for reddit. dont log into gmail, twitter, etc. just make it a reddit VM.

there is certainly more tracking than just IP address.

essentially runs a separate computer on your desktop: https://www.virtualbox.org/
New operating System: https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?version=22.04&architecture=amd64
or (Qubes OS) https://www.qubes-os.org/

how to setup: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/how-to-run-ubuntu-desktop-on-a-virtual-machine-using-virtualbox#1-overview

remember to setup your VPN on ubuntu and test with:

I know you're serious with all this terminology, because of your puzzling background, but I didn't understand a single thing you said here. Can you tune up my computer and make it faster.....Thanks:)

reply

He's essentially suggesting a few ways to increase privacy online, first by clearing temporary stored data and other self-identifying metrics. Then he's suggesting setting up another operating system to run inside one's native OS.

Imagine you boot up Windows like normal, then you launch an application that will act like a virtual computer to boot up Mac OS. It can work the other way around, or you can even launch other OSes (like Linux) within your native environment.

I can't seem to find any videos at the moment outside of How-to instructionals that show the system running, so here's a random example. You don't have to listen to the narrator, just skip to around 5:27 and you can see how it boots up:

reply

Ok I get it, I know you two are the smartest here. Its not a surprise.

reply

why would you want to do this?

reply

Lots of reasons, but the general purpose (in this context) is to add another layer of obfuscation to a user's activity by utilizing an isolated environment separated from one's native operating system.

There are a lot of other uses for virtualization: software testing, replicating potentially malicious conditions in a sandboxed environment, and configuring installs for future deployment, to name a few.

Yes, there is a performance tradeoff, so particularly intensive tasks (like high-end gaming, for instance) are going to eat up a lot of extra resources than they otherwise would if running natively. Still, virtualization provides a lot more control to someone who wishes to experiment with different OSes without having to install them natively (as in, whatever automatically starts up when you physically turn on your computer)

reply

using a VM would easily build a completely different profile for the web browser for a layman.

web browsers hold "fingerprints" like operating system, browser version, screen resolution, extensions. all this is used to identify you.

for example. i dont need google/amazon/MC/etc knowing what bank i use.

i use different browser/email combos for different tasks.
email1/brave : general use
email2/firefox: banking only
email3/chrome: shopping
etc

reply

yeah i could probably speed it up :) . i havent seen bullschmidt around he's even more computer geeky then i am :)

im all for online privacy though, dont know if i wouldve helped this guy if i noticed the "unfinished business" line.

reply

I was just being funny. I know how smart you are from the movie twist game.

reply

i know you were, i was just teasing back. i enjoyed playing the games with you also. :)

reply

I wish everyone wanted to play the movie mind games, but its a bit over most peoples heads here.

reply

Some of us enjoy brain-teasing movie puzzles, and some like to post superficial divisive trolling nonsense that would get instantly banned by an active moderation team, like some unnamed emotionally disturbed Australian who pretends to be a variety of personas. It's what attracts all kinds to MovieChat.

So, when are you gonna start the next round? :-)

reply

Personal conduct is part of the reason why I just sat back and chuckled as BillHicksFan misinterpreted instructions that one time, wiping his entire hard drive in the process.

reply

oh yeah. i remember that. bullschimdt was going way to complicated :) i tried to interject and dumb it down.

then got ragged on by someone. who didnt understand anything.

i should thank you for killing the conversation, or we'd probably still be going :)

reply

What’s wrong with the ‘unfinished business’ line?

reply

just comes across sounding vindictive, like you want to troll/cause trouble. but i can understand feeling unjustly banned for "reasonable opinion". thats why i gave you this info to make yourself a new account, which you havent commented on.....

here's info in your browser:
https://mybrowserinfo.com/detail.asp?bhcp=1

of course IP and user agent are the big ones. (you can get a browser extension to change your user agent.) but even having a weird font installed could pinpoint you.

reply

People who start raging about being banned for their "reasonable opinion" , rarely have such a thing.

Their next stop is to start ranting about "free speech"
I sure sign of extremist hate speech OR just a hateful shit stirring troll,
is that they have to resort to Legal precedents to justify their words.

If the best thing you can say about your standpoint , is that you are legally allowed to have it , it cant be good.
And reddit is under no obligation to let you spout it .

reply

Pro-censorship woke authoritarian ideniftied ☝🏻

reply

I know you're serious with all this terminology, because of your puzzling background, but I didn't understand a single thing you said here.

Thank goodness for that! I thought it was just me! 😊

reply

Thanks for this excellent advice. Unfortunately I do all of my communications on an iPad. Is there any solution for tablets..?

reply

of course it would be apple grrrrr... apple locks down a lot of stuff. it would drive me insane. so i dont have much exp with apple...

did you try downloading a different browser? can you get chrome, opera, dolphin?

ive used dolphin on android. it allowed me to change the user agent directly in the settings. because i hate getting the mobile sites sometimes and i changed the UA so the web site would send me the desktop version of the site.

reply

It's always nice to see others who don't buy into the Apple hype. People love Apple because it's so simple it's easy to use. But I despise it because its simplicity is precisely the reason I find it difficult to use.

reply

If it is such a “woke toilet”, why bother finishing business there? I find Reddit a little too chatty with long threads and sub-conversations. I don’t have time or patience for all that.

reply

What's the unfinished business? Is it a constructive and altruistic endeavor that would appeal to the level-headed?

reply

Of course it is , he wants to get back on there to give them all a voucher code for a free popsicle!

reply

There’s no necessary connection between altruism and level-headedness. That said, yes, correcting lies and overcoming censorship is enormously constructive and altruistic.

reply

I don't participate on Reddit, however I find it useful sometimes, as one of its threads may pop up when I'm searching for something; someone may have asked the same or similar question there. Same with Quora.

reply

WOW...YOU SOUND LIKE A REAL WINNER.😐

reply

You sound like a complete helmet.

Why would we want to help you to be a troll? From what you’ve said, I don’t even want you to be here.

reply

Yep, a complete helmet.

reply

IT WASN'T CUTE OR FUNNY THE FIRST TIME...WHY THE REPEAT?

reply

I don't think he's happy.

reply

Wow, definitely a total helmet.

reply

Are you Donald Trump?

reply

No. Why?

reply

Perhaps you should redirect your energies into something more worthwhile?

reply

Why?

reply

The definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

reply

Precisely why I’m here asking for suggestions of new actions 🤦🏻‍♂️

reply

Why not just let it go and bring calmness into your life - it really is much nicer.

reply

Err, no. Allowing deceit and censorship to run amok might be ‘nice’ but it breeds a toxic world.

reply

I'd rather have a beer thanks.

reply

Great, go get one, you’re of no use here.

reply

Gosh you’re a friendly sort.

reply

HE AND I ARE BOUND TO BE FRIENDS.😏

reply

There seems to be an awful lot of aggressive posters recently 🤷‍♂️

reply

I THINK THIS THREAD IS A CLUE AS TO WHY...EVERY MOUTHY DICKBAG WHO GETS THEMSELVES A BAN ELSEWHERE SHOWS UP HERE...AND THEY ARE ALL SUCH A PLEASURE AS WELL.🙂

reply

You’re like the noisy fat guy in a mental asylum.

reply

DAMN...YOU ARE CLEVER AND AWESOME...YOU'VE GOT ME QUIVERING WITH JEALOUSY.😏

reply

Gosh you’re a friendly sort.

Says the smug twat who took a dump in my thread.

reply

Well, it looks pretty obvious why you got banned, lol.

reply

Certainly, patiently sustaining obnoxious comments from a belligerent prick who then bans you when you finally respond in kind is a common occurrence.

reply

Well, good luck in your quest.

reply

I don’t need it, I’ve already had plenty of helpful replies amongst the little rat-turds you and that Kowalski prick have dropped all around this thread.

reply

No need to be rude - I haven't said anything nasty to you.

reply

I wasn’t being rude, I was describing your behaviour. If you don’t like it then change it.

reply

Have fun on Reddit.

reply

What a dick.

reply

Why? I’m wishing you luck and hoping you have fun. How is this possibly a bad thing?

reply

No you’re not, you’re a sarcastic shitweasel who has contributed nothing of value to this thread.

reply

I’m really not being sarcastic.

reply

Sure.

reply

BASED ON YOUR COMMENTS THUS FAR...YOU SUCK.🙂

reply

That’s a compliment coming from an all-caps retard. Reddit is teeming with fuckwits like yourself, you’d love it there.

reply

NO...REDDIT IS HOT TRASH MUCH LIKE YOURSELF APPARENTLY.

reply

Seriously, you’d fit right in with the paedophilic mods and other sexual degenerates on there.

reply

HOW IS THAT?...I AM NEITHER A "paedophilic mods" NOR A " sexual degenerate"...THIS IS AN OLD FASHIONED LOVE WE HAVE...IT IS SPECIAL.

reply

You’re certainly a sexual degenerate and it’s quite possible that you’re also a paedophilic Reddit mod.

reply

🍌

reply

Thank you for making my point.

reply

I MADE YOUR POINT YESTERDAY...DON'T YOU REMEMBER HOW MANY NAPKINS WE NEEDED FOR CLEANUP?
