"Frisco" Bowl? Noooo!
Do the Tropical Smoothies Cafe people not realize that no one in California calls San Francisco "Frisco?" It's a damn insult!

shareAnother lame, pointless bowl game. Right up there with the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
shareOh, come on. PLENTY of people in CA call it Frisco for short, and have for decades. I have cousins born and raised in Mill Valley and San Rafael that casually referred to it as Frisco all through the 90's. They're the ones I learned that nickname from. And in the 6 years I lived in SoCal, almost everyone down there referred to it as Frisco.
Just because nobody likes it now, especially the locals, don't act like it was never a thing.
"And in the 6 years I lived in SoCal, almost everyone down there referred to it as Frisco."
Wow! In my experience (30 years in SoCal) I don't remember anyone here calling it "Frisco." I also have lived in Marin County (4 years) and your cousins from Mill Valley and San Rafael, if your story is true, just strike me as a very small, aberrant clique. They don't happen to belong to a gang of any sort, do they? (I have heard that gang-bangers do use "Frisco")
LOL! Yeah, there's tons of gangs in Mill Valley and San Rafael. No, they weren't gangbangers. They were affluent white teenagers. I grew up in Sacramento, and everyone here always referred to it as Frisco in the 90's and 2000's, too.
I can also link to the lyrics of E-40, Too Short, Dru Down, Mac Dre, Yukmouth and Snoop songs that repeatedly refer to the city as Frisco. But I suppose that would just add to your "gangbanger" argument.
Sacramento is the Iowa of California.
shareAgreed. But it's also home. And it's also the place that San Franciscans are moving to in droves, by the tens of thousands, which has now made Sacramento tied with Miami, FL as the most unaffordable housing market in the country, AND the fastest growing city in America.

Maybe it's called Frisco because the game is played in Frisco Texas and not San Francisco.
