Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) the idea the bad guy (who is dead) can get you in your sleep. So simple and complex at the same time.

Ready or Not (2019). To me this was one of the best horror experiences I have ever had. Something new, original and of course suspenseful and fun to watch.

I think Hellraiser (1987) was rather revolutionary. It did away with all the "vampires", "werewolves", "witches", etc., tropes. Surreal realms and creatures not based on anything we had seen. Clive Barker's worlds are very unique and imaginative.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006) kinda revived the dark fairytale, but in a unique way.
