Subtitles in Blu-Rays from other countries

I just ordered the Breaking Away Blu-Ray from Japan. It seems like all the Blu-Rays for that movie from other countries are either sold out or extremely expensive. I don't speak any languages other than English, so the plan was obviously to change the audio language to English.

But then I remembered something. Many years ago, I watched Kill Bill 1 on DVD in France. The DVD was French, obviously I changed the audio language to English, but there were no subtitles in any of the Japanese language scenes.

So I decided to check my Midnight In Paris Blu-Ray. There's one French language scene that has English subtitles. So I changed the audio language to French, and checked that scene, and there were no subtitles. There are if you set the subtitle language to English, but that would mean the whole movie would have English subtitles. I don't want subtitles in English language scenes, and I don't want to have to keep turning the subtitles on and off, that could be very annoying in movies with lots of foreign language scenes.

I haven't seen Breaking Away. IMDb says there are scenes in Italian and French. If you've seen the movie, are there any scenes where subtitles are required? If there are, is there any way to get the subtitles to automatically appear in the foreign language scenes, and no English language scenes, without having to turn them on and off? Basically, is there any way to make it like I got it from an English speaking country?

By the way, my reasons for wanting it on Blu-Ray are long and complicated, but I am aware there are other ways to watch it.

It's been so long since I've seen this, but I remember the protagonist being a big fan of the Italian racing team and tried to emulate everything they did. This included learning the language. There was a scene where he attempts to initiate a conversation with them in Italian. There may have been embedded subtitles, the kind that automatically show up on the screen and are part of the film. Like I said, I saw this long ago, so don't take my word for it.
