1950s - rebellion
1960s - independence
1970s - gritty, natural, and a combination of previous decades

30s...Dust bowl, Great Depression?
40s...Nazis
50s...Men ruling the world
60s... People thinking they can actually change the world.
70s...Disco

30s...Charlie Chaplin?
40s...Gone with the Wind
50s...Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
60s...Planet of the Apes
70s..The greatest dark movies of all time, that I don't want to watch.

When it comes to modern 50s TV shows, I agree.... Although there were some great ones like "Wanted: Dead or Alive" and "The Rifleman"

And the past isn't all that much different from the present, as fantasy has always packed them in. They talk about the "gritty, natural" of the 70s, but you can't talk about that decade without bringing up the birth of the blockbusters -- like Star Wars and Jaws.
