10/10 from me, which will surprise no one here who knows me, but I’m interested to hear what you guys think, especially people from the US who might not be as familiar with the song or the two artists.

reply

I have been lucky enough to see both artists live.

This gets a wild 9.5/10.

reply

Yeah they both know how to put on an awesome live show. Speaking of which, this performance where they reunited is great, you can really feel the love and respect they have for each other

Song - 4
Chick - 9

😎

reply

Chick?? That’s the queen of Australia you’re talking about there!

😉😛

reply

And honourary Queen of Europe 🤗

reply

Obviously Australia doesn't have a queen, so I guess you're saying she's popular there?

😎

reply

Kylie’s been reasonably popular here over the past 30 years, yes. She’s been called a national treasure 🙂

As Kate said, she’s loved by many in Europe too. America is one of the few places where household name status has eluded her.

reply

Never heard of her, but okay then.

😎

reply

Not even this song? It was a pretty big hit in the US

reply

Oh her. Yeah, I remember that song.

😎

reply

fever is pretty much a perfect pop album.

reply

Yes it’s very good and by far her biggest seller.

I prefer her 1997 album Impossible Princess, just ‘cause it was so experimental and she wrote all the songs. It’s a rare glimpse into the person behind the pop star.

reply

Queen Elizabeth is Head of State of Australia.

reply

No she's not. The PM is.

😎

reply

Hownos is actually closer to the mark. Queen Elizabeth is the sovereign of Australia and is represented locally by the Governor General. Both could be considered head of state, but that rank is not officially recognised in the Australian constitution.

reply

Nope. The Australian PM is the head of state. The Queen is just a figurehead.

😎

reply

I looked up my government’s website and it appears Hownos was correct all along:

https://www.dfat.gov.au/about-us/publications/corporate/protocol-guidelines/Pages/1-1-head-of-state-and-governor-general

So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. My apologies for correcting you howie

reply

Horse shit.

😎

reply

Lol

Ok, but you’ll have to take it up with Australian Government, their rules, not mine 🤷‍♂️

reply

Nah, not gonna bother, cause I know I'm right.

😎

reply

How American of you lol

reply

Thanks! So what are you, TS?

😎

reply

Australian, mate 🐨

reply

Good on ya, mate!

I booked a tour to your country for September, but they canceled it because of covid, blah, blah, blah. I will reschedule because I can hardly wait to visit your amazing country!

😎

reply

Nice! I hope you can reschedule your trip here soon. Let me know if you want any tips for good places to see, I’ve done a fair bit of travel in different parts of the country through the years 🙂👍

reply

Thanks! Any tips would be greatly appreciated. The 20 day tour is scheduled to visit Melbourne, Hobart, the Tasman Peninsula, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, Uluru, Ayers Rock, Alice Springs, a ride on the Ghan Train, Katherine, Darwin, Kakadu National Park, Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, and Sydney.

The Tour Co. currently plans to resume tours in April 2022. The key word here of course, is currently.

It's the same in Canada. The Queen is head of state. The Governor General is her representative. The Prime Minister is head of government.

reply

Prime Ministers are never a head of state. They are a head of government. The Prime Minister of Israel is not the head of state. They have a President who is head of state.

reply

Okay then. Whatever.

😎

reply

you don't read much do you?

reply

All the time, Bubba! I just googled it, and you are correct. Happy now?

😎

reply

All the time, Bubba, just not much about the Queen or Australia's government! I just googled it,
and you are correct. Happy now?

Here's the question I've always wondered, What can the Queen do, and not be stopped by Parliament, or the Prime Minister. Other than Charities, which are great, what does she and the royal family do?

reply

the queen's main role is to sign legislation into law. if she or any of her successors ever refused to sign that would trigger a constitutional crisis and the end of the monarchy. it's a useless ceremonial role and i wish canada would become a republic and be rid of it.

reply

Oh so she does actually sign laws, I didn't know that...

reply

The song is a 7, but the video itself is a 10.

reply

It’s a beautiful video, indeed.

reply

Nick Cave is one of the few musical artists I can describe as a bit of a genius without wanting to vomit in disgust.

reply

Hmmm. I was never super fond of the song, but I'd never seen the video before. I like the video more than the song.

Song - 6
Video - 9.5

reply

I’m a bit surprised the song isn’t getting a bit more love. I think the orchestral arrangement and gothic feel of it is so original. Haunting would be the best word to describe it, for me anyway.

reply

I don't dislike the song, but I just know that I wasn't really into it when it came out.

reply

4/10

reply

When this came out I was like 'what the hell is this? This isn't a pop song'. I think it went number 1 in Australia. It was a grower as I eventually enjoyed it.
