What did you watch this week sunshine? (06/06-06/12)

It's summer time!!!! Let's have cold cocktails and unwine!!!! At nght when it's dark, for us it's: Movie Time!!!

Sing along with me then tell me what you watched.

Me:

Stop or my mom will shoot (1992 TV): I liked this movie back then and on rewatch I like it still. Very silly, cute and fun. The haters are all stone cold hearted. I give it the award for Worst Wardrob and it just makes it all better. Oh and what can I say about that smile in the last frame? Priceless. I don’t know if it’s true that Arnie tricked Sly in taking that role but if he did, good on him! My rating: 7/10

Open 24 hours (2018 DVD): A blind buy that payed off. Starts of pretty slowly but it do get pretty intense even if the story barely makes sense and you might see a twist or 2 coming in advance. There is No abuse of jump scares and there is a few precious moments of dialogue. The ambiance, settings and cinematography were warm, cool and nice to look at. The cast was just good enough to make the shaky story work. My rating: 6.5/10

Come to daddy (2020 DVD): I feel like the first hour dragged 30 minutes of solid material and it affected the final product but the last 30 minutes contained enough wicked gems to make it still very worth it. Best line: “The semen was yellow OK! I’m not defending my choice with you, let’s fucking go!” For those who have seen it; (Spoilers) this movie would’ve made so much more sense and been better if instead of hearing the phone calls at night (that gave away half of the twist) we would’ve heard only the metal clanking at night. Anyways, my rating: 7/10

The island (2005 DVD): My wife said we already watched this a few years ago. I said: you did, I fell asleep 20 minutes in and barely remember what I saw.” So it was my “first time” seeing it. The concept is good. The special effects, settings and cinematography are all tippity-top. The direction is sufficiently Bayesque. The first chase scene was exhilarating but in the final act it became redundant and over the top. The acting is very average (Except for Steve Buscemi who doesn’t know how to give a bad performance). I much preferred the first hour because once they’re out in the city, it tries too much to be an all-out action movie filled with explosions when it worked better as a mysterious sci-fi. I think it’s a bit better than THX-1138, way inferior to Blade Runner and about as good as Logan’s run. My rating: 6.8/10

Lol haha hihi, yes yes, oui oui 🙌 👏

That was borrowed from an old Loudon Wainwright III song, probably called The Laughing Song, as well as the old Monty Python skit many of us are familiar with.

You always embellish your question with a different characterization of us MCers.
I appreciate your efforts.

Tower (2016) - 7.9 rating on IMDb. Animation, testimony and archival footage combine to relate the events of
August 1, 1966 when a gunman opened fired from the University of Texas clock tower, killing 16 people. This was a
riveting and sobering experience, and I now know the events of that tragic day much better. I highly recommend it.

I have been binging a lot of classic tv series but I did watch Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson. I'd give it a solid 8/10.

The lady just above you also watched it!

First time doing this because it's 4 in the morning and I can't sleep...

I Love You To Death (1990) - Was in a River Phoenix mood after seeing Stand By Me the week before. Recalled not loving this movie when it originally came out, but a couple decades later I thought it was pretty dang hilarious with a really impressive cast. (6.8/10)

The Purge (2013) - Was on Peacock to watch a sitcom and it popped up. Thought I'd give it a try for a few minutes and realized Lene Headley was in it. I ended up watching the whole thing. It was a whole lot smaller than I had always assumed it was. Not bad, not great. (5/10)

Streets of Fire (1984) - This came up in a search and I downloaded it. Oddly enough it popped up on my Netflix two days later. Anyway, it's a big swing and a miss for me, but I appreciated what they were trying to do with it, and Willem Dafoe was creepy as all hell. (5/10)

Transporter 2 (2005) - I never got around to this one, only because I felt the first was a surprisingly entertaining ride that couldn't possibly be recaptured with a cash-grabbing sequel. I was right. There were a few entertaining moments and it's peak Statham, but it couldn't hold a candle to the original, and moving the setting to Miami was a huge step back. On another note, couldn't keep my eyes off Amber Valletta. Woof. (4.0)

reply

Transporter 2: The first one was good indeed but I haven’t seen the sequel.

reply

It’s your first time? Looks like you done this all your life my man! Keep bringing the reviews and ratings, we want’em!

I started the series Doom Patrol 2019, looks good. Episode 1 and 2...7/10

The adventures of an idealistic mad scientist and his field team of superpowered outcasts.

Cheers!

Again, I started watching A Good Year (2006), but I just couldn't take it anymore. Russell Crowe was just awful.

TV Shows

-The Bold and the Beautiful - marathon of very old episodes

-Days of Our Lives - marathon of very old episodes

-The Babysitters Club - Episode 5

No movies. Been watching Clarkson's Farm on Prime. The dude from Top Gear tries running a farm and it's interesting, insightful, and funny. Presented in much the same way Top Gear was. His sidekick worker buddy Kaleb is a riot.
