which movie changed your life?

mine was back to the future. It got me interested in time travel, so I built my own time machine and now travel backwards and forwards in time at least twice a week.

What about you?

Yeah, you’re right… I should be nicer to the newbies. Reviewed and deleted 😝

I chuckled 🤭

What was it?

Star wars did not change my life but somehow it is part of my life (without being sentimental here).

I became obsessed with David Lynch's The Elephant Man at around age 10, long before I knew David Lynch from Adam. I've long credited the film for teaching me to be an empathetic person. I'm turning 50 this year. We're talking 40 years here...

reply

nice. That's a good example. Michael Jackson loved that movie too. He could relate.

reply

Jaws. I pretty much quit ocean water skiing after seeing it.

I saw "Schindler's List" at a time when I was fed up with my job and career, and left thinking "Why the hell am I wasting my life at a job I hate, when I could be doing something worthwhile?".

So I ended up with a second career in the helping professions. Not entirely due to the movie, but it really did help motivate me.

reply

nice. Oscar would be proud. He'd add you to his list!

MANNEQUIN,COOL HAND LUKE,PAPILLON AND CLERKS.IN THAT ORDER.

reply

why?

reply

MANNEQUIN WAS ONE OF MY ONLY TAPES AT THE TIME AND IT IS LIKE A PART OF ME...COOL HAND LUKE AND PAPILLON INTRODUCED ME TO MY TWO FAVORITE ACTORS AND TAUGHT ME WHAT COOL IS...AND CLERKS INSTRUCTED MY SENSE OF HUMOR AND JOY IN GOOD FILMS...NO MATTER THE BUDGET OR SUBJECT MATTER.

reply

i love your devotion to mannequin.

AS A WELFARE KID WHO GOT VERY LITTLE...MY AUNT WOULD MAKE COPIES OF MOVIES ON VHS FOR ME OFF HER HBO...THIS WAS THE LATE 80S/EARLY 90S...THOSE TAPES WERE MY ENTIRE MEDIA WORLD,EXCEPT THE WEEKLY VIDEO STORE TRIP WITH TIGHT LIMITS...SO FOR WHATEVER REASON MY AUNT CHOSE THE FILMS SHE CHOSE...AND THERE WERE ABOUT A HUNDRED OR SO BY THE END...THOSE FILMS STICK WITH ME FOR LIFE,AS WELL AS MY OBSESSION WITH MEDIA AND COLLECTING IT...THANKS AUNT NANCY.

MANNEQUIN AND A TV MOVIE THAT ACTED AS PILOT TO A SHOW...OUTLAWS....I WATCHED THOSE TAPES INTO DUST...AND MY PASSION FOR THEM IS JUST AS STRONG 30 YEARS LATER.

MANNEQUIN AND ITS SEQUEL ARE AVAILABLE ON BLU RAY NOW...PRICEY BUT AWESOME...ONE DAY I WILL BE DELIGHTED TO PICK THEM UP.

Fireproof (2008) is as life-changing as Christian films get.
