If you ever been to a buffet...

...do you stack up your first plate with meats (and maybe a starch)?

That's what I do. I go for the meats.

Even though I live in a casino town (Reno, and yes I'm originally from NYC) I don't go to buffets much. I do like them, though, whenever I do go.

I've learned to make several trips rather than load up my plate. It works better for me. Sure, that first trip I'm going to seek out the star show of the buffet, whether it is prime rib or crab legs or whatever.

Why waste time with the starches? When I see blood on the toilet paper I know I got my money's worth.

YIKES.🩸🧻

LOL

First I stack my plate with stuff that might fit into the appetizer category, and then again with main dish sort of stuff, and then I see if they have anything worth eating for desserts, because the desserts at a lot of buffets suck!

But I haven't been to a buffet since I went vegetarian.

reply

Meats and whatever dishes I can't be bothered making myself. And prawns.

reply

Nah, I build my first plate like an actual meal. Sit down and eat a proper dinner. Then I go back and just pile it up with the good stuff. Mountains of crab legs, mounds of ribs, whatever they got going on. But I always make sure to get my proper square in first.

What are the best strategies for when and how to stuff the wife's purse with food.

reply

Maybe line the purse with a plastic bag?

reply

Every single plate, 100% meat. But I don't eat buffets anymore. A couple of years ago, I saw some guy serve himself on an already used plate. It was disgusting, he was old enough to know better (in his 50's).

Something about having unlimited eats can bring out the worst in some people. Any sense of decorum can go out the window.

See the above post about using a woman's purse to hoard food. It's been attempted in real life.

Gigantic salad with all the toppings: tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, baby carrots, sharp cheddar cheese, feta cheese, ham, turkey, chicken breast, olives(green and black), banana peppers, green peppers, bacon bits, hard boiled egg slices, pepperoncini, and croutons smothered in blue cheese dressing only if they have huge blue cheese chunks otherwise it's ranch.

reply

You know, if it was a regular salad I wouldn't have said anything. But...
