Stratego's Eurovision Thread!πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸŽΆπŸŽ‰

Even though I'm not even going to watch it, I have no choice but to host this thread as the event is taking place in my own city.

So, who do you think is going to win? According to the bookies the favourites are Italy, France and Malta.

reply

Monaco Murder Squad - "Bing Tiddle-Tiddle Bong"

reply

That's a real one, right?

reply

The Monty Python team would say so, lol.

reply

You guys really should send the remaining Monty Python members to Eurovision next year!

reply

Did you hear Ukrainian song?
I think it's brilliant

reply

Come on, people, place your bets!

reply

Switzerland

reply

Their flag is definitely a big plus.

reply

Italy is way ahead of everybody else. Have the bookies been that wrong before?

reply

My personal favorites are Lithuania, Belgium and Ukraine. In general, Malta had a strong appearance - at least her voice, the song is average.
France has not fully performed yet and I'm not invested enough to look it up on YT, the 15 seconds I know were pretty charming.

Probable winner? I'd guess Malta

I honestly never heard of this contest until it was mentioned on a thread on this board some time ago. I just did a little digging:

Only four winners have charted on the US Billboard Hot 100, one of those a version by a different artist.

By far and away the biggest hit in the US was ABBA's 1974 winning song "Waterloo," which is the only winner to make the Top Ten in the US, at #6.

The other three are:

2019: "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence (Netherlands) #78. Also #12 Adult Contemporary Chart, #17 Adult Top 40, #27 Mainstream Top 40. (We Americans can be statistic crazy and list crazy.)

1976: "Save Your Kisses For Me" by Brotherhood of Man (UK) #27. Also hit #1 on the Easy Listening chart.

1967: "Puppet on a String" by Sandie Shaw (UK). A version released by trumpeter Al Hirt hit #129.

Waterloo is a good Eurovision song, the rest is kinda meh.

The girl from Cyprus looked great and the song wasn't bad.
The Albanian singer is not singing in English.
