So far, 5,800 fully vaccinated people have caught Covid anyway in US, CDC says

https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/14/health/breakthrough-infections-covid-vaccines-cdc/

Some became seriously ill and 74 people died, the CDC said. It said 396 -- 7% -- of those who got infected after they were vaccinated required hospitalization.

This is the CDC's first public accounting of breakthrough cases, and the agency is searching for patterns based on patient age and gender, location, type of vaccine, variants and other factors.

"So far, about 5,800 breakthrough cases have been reported to CDC. To date, no unexpected patterns have been identified in case demographics or vaccine characteristics,"

About 77 million people in the US are fully vaccinated against coronavirus, according to a CNN analysis of CDC data. The CDC's reports on breakthrough cases will lag day-to-day reports of vaccines given, so many, if not most, of those breakthrough cases will have happened weeks ago.

Nonetheless, the total represents a very small percentage of those who have been vaccinated.

Breakthrough cases are expected. The vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infections and as tens of millions of people are vaccinated, more and more such cases will be reported.

Pfizer/BioNTech's vaccine was 95% effective in preventing symptomatic disease in clinical trials, and earlier this month the companies said real-life data in the US shows the vaccine is more than 91% effective against disease with any symptoms for six months. Moderna's vaccine was 94% effective in preventing symptomatic illness in trials, and 90% effective in real life use. Johnson & Johnson's vaccine was 66% overall globally in trials, and 72% effective at preventing disease in the US.

CDC will be looking for clues about who is most prone to become infected despite having been vaccinated.

"Vaccine breakthrough infections were reported among all people of all ages eligible for vaccination. However, a little over 40% of the infections were in people 60 or more years of age," the CDC said.

Most, 65%, were female and 29% of the so-called breakthrough infections were asymptomatic. "CDC is monitoring reported cases for clustering by patient demographics, geographic location, time since vaccination, vaccine type or lot number, and SARS-CoV-2 lineage," the CDC said.

The likelihood of these "very rare" infections depends on how much virus is circulating within a community

"There is currently a lot of transmission in many parts of the country. Vaccines will help decrease that," del Rio said. "Get vaccinated as soon as you can and help control this pandemic."

MSNBC also says that 5,800 total would also amount to LESS than .008 PERCENT of the VACCINATED population who have gotten ill with the COVID VIRUS.

incredibly good numbers.

That’s what I thought. This should be a lead story.

What's interesting is how it says 40 % were OVER AGE 60, and MOST or 65% were also FEMALES.

So for some reason FEMALES also seem to be affected differently by it than the MALES.

And that may also have something to do with HORMONES because the INFUSION of MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES they use to cure you if you end up in a hospital is also full of STEROIDS.

weird thing.
i like the way kowalski types in all caps.
but the way you mix lower and upper case irritates me deeply.

Also FOUND THIS other interesting and informative ARTICLE that explains the reasons why FEMALES have worse SIDE EFFECTS than MALES:

Women Report Worse Side Effects After a Covid Vaccine

On the morning that Shelly Kendeffy received her second dose of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine, she felt fine. By afternoon, she noticed a sore arm and body aches, and by evening, it felt like the flu.

“My teeth were chattering, but I was sweating — like soaked, but frozen,” said Ms. Kendeffy, 44, a medical technician in State College, Pa.

The next day, she went to work and surveyed her colleagues — eight men and seven women — about their vaccine experiences. Six of the women had body aches, chills and fatigue. The one woman who didn’t have flu symptoms was up much of the night vomiting.

The eight men gave drastically different reports. One had mild arm pain, a headache and body aches. Two described mild fatigue and a bit of achiness. One got a headache. And four had no symptoms at all.

reply

definitely.
there are still 70+k new cases reported daily in the u.s.
if 5800 of them in total are from the fully vaccinated population, then that's further confirmation that the shots are the triumph we thought they were.

reply

Damn, that’s like 0.001 percent. 😀

reply

Yes that .008 PERCENT number is definitely VERY IMPRESSIVE !!!

But apparently FEMALES and others over age 65 should also still be wearing a MASK and keeping a SAFE DISTANCE away from others who may also NOT be VACCINATED???

I also like the way that it says they're keeping track of this matter so we can know if others in our area are having these kind of issues:

"CDC is monitoring reported cases for clustering by patient demographics, geographic location, time since vaccination, vaccine type or lot number, and SARS-CoV-2 lineage," the CDC said.

📌📌📌📌📌

My silly Anti-Vax brother also keeps harping on about we're having NANOBOTS injected into us when we're vaccinated. If he read this article the part about how they're tracking us by the use of demographics, location, and lot numbers would probably further confirm for him that's the case.

🙄

reply

The vaccines are at most 95% effective, so there is always going to be at least 5% who catch it for one reason or another.

reply

But doesn't that .008 PERCENT number also indicate that not even 1% (and much less than that) are getting sick from the VIRUS once they're vaccinated???

So why don't they change that 95% and also say that it's more than 99% effective as more and more people continue to get vaccinated???

🧐

reply

I think the percentages came from clinical trials.

reply

Yes it's probably from clinical trials, but aren't we all also a part of those trials now???

Especially with the way the article says that they're tracking us by demographics and locations???

reply

No, I think clinical trials are much more closely watched and track the individuals in the trials very carefully and regularly. You are talking about tracking real world data which is also done but has so many variables and unknowns that it takes longer to form conclusions. Some may have had covid or skipped the second dose or have underlying conditions that lessen the effects..

reply

Ok then. Thanks for the explanation which is also appreciated very much !!!

reply

That number would have been 6,000 if the vaccines didn't exist.

reply

When 70,000 people each day catch COVID it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY only 6,000 people would have caught it.

Without the VACCINES existing all the OLD FOLKS in nursing homes who previously died who aren't dying anymore (because UNVACCINATED 20,30, 40 & 50 yr olds DIE now) would have been added on to that other 70,000 per day.
