youtube addictions

i am addicted to :

mafia channels (franseze, gravano, historical)
vietnam veteran interviews
holocaust survivor intervews
wwII docs
prison life channels
crime channels

and.... nature and zoology and paleontology docs

i've detected a pattern...

share your obsessions - you see mine, which are nothing to be proud of.

reply

Still better than TikTok addiction.

reply

You talking to me?

reply

Yes! I also watch the Holocaust survivor's. They are harrowing but so interesting at the same time. I've seen so many but they never get boring as everyone has a different story to tell.

reply

right. there are so many variations of experience. same with the vietnam vets.

Theres something for everyone on youtube!
For me its cars and engineering
TV will not broadcast stuff thats below a certain niche level - youtube will , so you have to police yourself on that ...
I sometimes think have i wasted my time watching a guy extract a snapped bolt from an engine?
I seemed to enjoy it!
Its the new age of "anything you want , on demand , at any time" - thats *got* to be a good thing

I cant for the life of me imagine why people still watch live broadcast tv and have the TV station tell THEM what time to watch stuff!
and .... and this is the worst bit .... put adverts every ten mins

reply

i like the engine and tool rebuilding vids

What do you think about the new Mercedes EQS?

reply

I'm more a fan of old cars so i wasnt aware of it , but ive just read this:
https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/finally-say-hello-mercedes-eqs

Looks pretty amazing (the whole package i mean , not its actual 'looks') , a lot of whingeing in the comments on that article though , about half are about its appearence.
Looks fine to me , as much as a modern car is allowed to these days with aerodynamics , and safety requirements

I nearly bought a late 70s Merc recently , but ended up getting 96 Nissan pickup instead .

reply

It represents what car designs would look in the near future. I think Mercedes nailed it and other manufacturers would follow it's trends: bulbous shape, short hood, oversized screens, hatchback stye trunk-lid and built-in features unlocked by payment. For better or worse.

reply

clamshell-style bonnet you can’t open (unless you work for a Mercedes dealer)
yikes!

(bonnet = hood in UK)

reply

Ferrari and Lamborghini do that for so many years already. But they give a transparent window so people can look at the engine.

Interviews of 5-10 people I find interesting. I search every week hoping for new ones.

I'm a terrible sleeper and ASMR videos have helped me get to sleep.

I also love walk around videos of countries I've never been to.

A guilty pleasure is public marriage proposals gone wrong. If you put a woman on the spot, expect to get embarrassed.

reply

holy moley, public marriage proposals gone wrong sounds painful :)

i cringe when people are embarrassed. even bad people.

asmr sounds interesting.

reply

You should watch at least one ASMR video. It's so soothing.

reply

I'm gonna look up marriage proposal gone wrong! I love watching stuff like that. Like all the public freak outs. Some folk need some medication!!!

reply

I kind of feel bad for the guy, but what else does he expect? First, you're showing off in front of people, and then you're pretty much forcing her to say "yes" just to avoid her embarrassing him in public.

reply

Odd tinkering

reply

yeah. 'the repair shop' a wonderful show streaming on, i blieve, amazon prime.

Over the past year, with all the world crumbling around us, I've been jumping from one hobby to another and finding related tutorials of:

Cosmetics and body art
Retro Lifestyle
Furniture Restoration
Baking
Specialty Coffee (Which I can't afford right now, but aspire to make)
Tea Culture

Italian greyhound doggie videos. For anyone who's wondered what it's like to combine a horsey with noodles, here it is:

Turn your screen sideways, and it looks like he's scaling the side of the building
