Easter is Pagan...
When are they ever going to accept that?
shareProbably so. Much of Christianity is lifted from other religions. From what I understand, if you wrote up a description of Mithraism and omitted a few specific details like names and locations, the average Christian wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
shareThe Christian celebration of Easter represents new life, both in terms of Christ resurrecting from the dead and the new life Christians have due to his sacrificial death.
That ties in with springtime celebrations of plants blooming, eggs hatching etc.
So is Christmas
Halloween
St Patrick's Day
St. Valentine's Day
St. Brigid's Day
Saturday
Sunday
Monday
Dia De Los Muertos is real cuz those cholos really dead.
I can't believe I left out May Day, when all the damsels twirl around the giant phallus.
I've never been able to find a pagan holiday for the Summer Solstice or the Fall Equinox.
This is the full list of the quarter days:
Lady Day (25 March, the Feast of the Annunciation) [spring equinox]
Midsummer Day (24 June) [summer solstice]
Michaelmas (29 September, the Feast of St Michael and All Angels) [fall equinox]
Christmas (25 December) [winter solstice]
This is the full list of the cross-quarter days:
Candlemas (2 February) [late winter]
May Day (1 May) [late spring]
Lammas (1 August) [late summer)
All Hallows (1 November) [late fall]
I forgot Groundhog Day (February 2)
Am I supposed to know these things? I did 12 years Catholic school. I don't remember learning Michaelmas, Lady Day, or Lammas. Candlemas rings a bell.
I also never heard of St. John's Eve (John the Baptist's birthday) basically the summer solstice.
Most people don't know these things these days.
