Movies You Turned Off Within 5 Minutes?

"Natural Born Killers"

I'm sure there's a few more I'll think of later.

reply

La La Land (2016)

I like Gosling and Stone, but not in this.

reply

They don't even appear onscreen within the first five minutes.

reply

That's what happens when a movie's intro is about as interesting as an Old Navy commercial...one starts imagining things.

reply

same exact situation here, the first 5 mins was that stupid big musical number in LA traffic, that shows how bad this was gonna be

reply

"Hey, let's watch this movie that's been heavily marketed as a musical."

*Five minutes later*

"A musical number in a musical?! I'm outta here!"

reply

Are you secretly Damien Chazelle?

reply

flipping through channels when I stopped on this, thought it was supposed to be romcom, didnt expect ryan goesling to be in a musical
this review seems to echo my opinion - For a film that starts with a slightly campy musical number that could alienate viewers just as easily as charm them, this romance sure makes the leap to greatness quickly.

maybe I should have given it 8 mins then, but again - its my opinion of the first 5 mins

reply

Right? I was like...this movie is trying way too hard. I enjoy some classic musicals, but this opening just made me roll my eyes.

reply

The BFG (2016)
Actually it's my 5yo son at the time that said it's looks boring why don't we just turn it off. And I agreed, it indeed felt very slow and boring in the first 5 minutes so I turned it off.

reply

It isn't all that bad. Gets better quickly. 6/10

reply

6/10 is not convincing me enough to watch it again.

reply

I would never go as far as recommending it. It just wasn't that bad. 6/10 feels generous.

reply

For a Spielberg's movie, it's very disappointing.

I’ve never turned off a movie within 5 minutes.

Ditto. I usually give it at least 20 mins.

reply

Me neither, except for Zoolander.

reply

Mer-MAN!

reply

there are a lot of no-budget horror films on tubi i've bailed on after a minute or so, because they looked a little too rough or dull or the sound was too wretched - bad sound is a show stopper for me when it comes to low budget affairs.

i can't think of a mainstream big studio film i've given up on that quickly. if i hit play on something like that, i'm generally gonna see it through to the end.

reply

I agree with the entirety of your first paragraph
Tubi has some good ones but a ton of stinkers

reply

Fast and Furious. It was an unbelievable opening sequence and I gave up immediately.

reply

I don't understand. You played a Fast and Furious movie expecting believable scenes?

reply

It was the first movie and had no expectations of any scenes.

reply

Roundhay Garden Scene.

reply

The Shape of Water
Most superhero movies

reply

I've never turned off a film after 5 minutes. I usually stick around for at least half an hour. But even that is rare. I hate not finishing a movie I started.

reply

I used to be like that, but I tell myself that I could pick a better movie to watch in that time-frame.

reply

If I don't finish it I can't in good conscience tick it off on imdb so it's extremely rare that I don't finish a movie.
At worst I'll semi watch it while doing something else so I at least get a grasp of its totality.
