How Do You Get Out Of A Movie Slump?

In the past, I'd make sure the movie was not slow-paced, sometimes going with a movie (I hadn't seen) with an actor I like, or a director who's filmography I hadn't completed. Sometimes, I'd watch a movie I liked very much - sometimes one I've seen many times, sometimes one I saw once, and would like to re-discover, although I sometimes stay away from that in fear of that movie going down in my book. Sometimes I'd pick a movie by Hitchcock, because of the lean editing.

When you have the time to watch movies, but can't. Whether it's not being able to find a movie to watch, or not being able to "get into it" after 10-20 minutes. I've had this problem for the entire length of COVID.

I think I've only watched one flick in the cinema in the past year, but I've watched dozens of them on Netflix or on
DVD's from Netflix. I highly recommend The Queen's Gambit. My rating is 8/10.

I've also watched a lot of good TV shows.

I find myself going into nostalgia mode.

Sunday night I watched Shocker.

I don't know what your preferred Genre is and it seems like a lot of posters are giving you high-brow films, but as one poster wrote, maybe get out of your comfort zone.
Not all of Adam Sandler films are awful, LOL.

Watch Love Exposure (2008).

I pretty much do what you have already said. I watch films from directors, actors and genres that I like. When I do this I like to not research the film at all, but instead go into it blind and I’ve really enjoyed watching that way.

Try something out of your comfort zone, like from a country or genre you haven't seen films from before. You never know, you may find a whole new world you will want to explore.

I think you have the right idea. Its fun to find a theme and stay with that. I also think getting out of your comfort zone is good. I normally don't like older movies, 40-70s..So exploring that, even if you just watch 15 minute of each movie is fun. If I hadn't done that, I never would have watched the original Death Wish.

Study older films of you watching movies and see if there is any noticeable difference in your movie watching mechanics between then and now. If all else fails, you can always hire a watching coach.

I do this on occasion, and I'm very fascinating with "change" and the disparity between two realities (me at 25 vs. me at 35), the same reason I like watching older movies from foreign countries who cover the same event that's been done in the US (like WWII) to see their take.

But there's nothing like watching a movie for the first time, and loving it, so I keep trying to chase that.
