Am I the Only One Who Hates These 4 Popular Movies?

The first two are retarded and the last two have horrible messaging.

The Karate Kid
Washing a car doesn't make anyone a Karate expert.

Flashdance
Ballet training is actually needed to become a ballerina. She had zip.

Pretty Woman
The movie made street prostitution look glamorous. I knew someone who wished she could be one to meet a rich guy. Apparently, she wasn't the only one.

Grease
Give in to peer pressure.

reply

Never saw Flashdance or Pretty Woman (and have no desire to)... "Grease" wasn't memorable, but I do like "The Karate Kid"

reply

Grease should be destroyed and never seen again. I hate everything about it. The acting, especially John Travolta is terrible. The music is terrible. The writing is terrible. The message is terrible. I hate it so much.

You have no soul joes!

Iā€™m joking but personally I love everything you hate about it. Funny how a film can elicit such opposite reactions from different people.

reply

The sight of this film makes me shudder. It gives me chills and they're multiplying. I'm hopelessly devoted to hating this movie.

reply

At least you have a sense of humour about it šŸ˜†

For me itā€™s as good as a hickie from kenickie

reply

You should try ā€œlong distance running.ā€

How is there anything to love about the message in "Grease"?

reply

I think if youā€™re looking for a ā€œmessageā€ in a movie like Grease then youā€™re overthinking it entirely.

reply

So there's no problem to you that a story encourages girls to give up their identities and start smoking?

reply

Only as much of a problem that thereā€™s a movie like John Wick which encourages people to shoot as many people in the head as possible to obtain your freedom, or that thereā€™s a movie like The Sound of Music which encourages nuns to give up their religious vocation to find true love. You see where Iā€™m going with this??

reply

Well, "Pretty Woman" seems to give some women the idea that prostitution is glamorous.
Yes, it is up to everybody to find out what it's really about before becoming a prostitute.
Unfortunately though, some people aren't smart enough to do so.
And when you look at it that way, you won't see the movie as that harmless anymore.
"Grease" falls into that same cathegory to me.
It might look just harmless to you that Sandy has to change, but I can't see it that way.
Then again, I'm allergic to hearing that peer pressure is a benign thing anyway.

reply

I like all four.

reply

Yes. No one hates all of these. I'm sure people will hate one or two, or feel indifferent to them, but while the problems you have with them are valid, they're not that deep and there's probably no one that would say they hate all of these.

reply

Originally, I found all of them to be entertaining and even enjoyed the music. I own the Grease soundtrack. But, the problems eventually made them unwatchable for me. I used to cringe when "slutty" Sandy appears.

With the exception of Flashdance, the movies are classics and pop-up on TV repeatedly so I know they're still popular.

reply

I get that. Like I said, the issues you have with them are valid. Even though I love Jennifer Beals, Flashdance is almost completely ridiculous in a lot of ways. But I don't hate it. Movies are made in a certain time, so context is important.

reply

Your point on the Karate Kid is valid. Iā€™ve waxed off plenty and am no better of a fighter for it. Except maybe I can punch a little harder with my right arm now.

reply

I had a coworker who actually believed washing a car could make someone a karate expert. What a dolt!

reply

LOLšŸ˜

Oh, You!!

reply

Those films are works of fiction. At the end of Grease they ride into the clouds to live happily ever after. Are you worried people are taking these kinds of movies seriously?

reply

Haven't seen Flashdance but I like the other three.

reply

I've never seen Flashdance but I have no problem with the other movies. They're just fun and entertaining, not meant to be analyzed. But, to each their own.
