Let's say a male school teacher in 1974, aged 23, on school camp, was drunk and made out with a 14 year old girl. He touched her breasts through her clothes.
She reports him in 2020 and in 2021 he is found guilty.
Since 1974, he's led an exemplary life. He currently looks after his special needs adult daughter. The judge can either lock him away or let him have a criminal record, with a fully suspended sentence so he can continue to look after his daughter.
I would say that that would be a wise decision, taking into account all of the circumstances of the case.

I do find it silly when people bring up DECADES old accusations against someone especially if said person was disgruntled in someway (jilted ex-lover, former employee, political opponent, etc). Like that Brett Kavanaugh case.
Let’s not pretend that false accusations don't happen. I believe in a thorough investigation. Kinda hard to do that years after it allegedly happened.
