Cheer up, winter hermits! ☀️

Sunset is after 5 PM now! The long tunnel of winter is getting shorter.

But...we're supposed to get 3-4 inches of snow tomorrow. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

A bright, crisp day in ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth 8c/47f. Roll on the Spring.

reply

But how is that good for Spring/Summer hermits like myself?

reply

Um, sorry. I don't have an answer for this except don't move to Phoenix, AZ!

reply

Still -2°c 😒.

Thanks for the silver lining though lol.

reply

We were below zero F last night so I feel for you. We did have sunshine today for a while. 👍

reply

Sunset is 4:58 where I am. May I still be grumpy?

reply

Yes, for about three more days. 😉

reply

Lol. Awesome. Thanks 😊.

reply

Meh... Over here, the sun will set at 3:13 tomorrow.
Everybody who comes from a latitude below 60 degrees knows nothing about winter gloom.

reply

They also don't know the joy of the midnight sun.

reply

Indeed.
But I prefer dark midnights in June (which we don't have unless it's raining, but still) over all those dark afternoons in December.

reply

Yep, the days will continue getting longer until June 21.

😎

reply

30°C here today and my air conditioner is broken 🥵

reply

Argh! Sorry to hear that. It's always something...🙄

reply

We are at -20 C today. Yay!! I'll send you some cool air if you want.

reply

Yes please 🤗

It’s even worse today, 32 and rising. The struggle is real. I’m actually looking forward to work tomorrow, if only for the air conditioning!

reply

I don't do heat very well.

reply

Spring begins on March 20th. Less than two months away.

reply

And daylight savings starts a few days prior to that!

reply

DST just means resetting the clocks so you get up one hour earlier. It doesn't make the days longer.

reply

Love the extra light in the evening.

reply

Not to start an argument, but there is no "extra light" in the evening. The sun sets when the sun sets, depending upon the time of year in relation to the tilt of the Earth on its axis. Your clock has been merely reset an hour earlier.

reply

Love it
Bring on the Sun!

So far I can't complain about this New York winter too much, it's been constantly cold but the snow mostly came in one big storm and it's all gone now

I'm reading the gardening catalogues and making big plans😃

reply

Do you grow your own veggies?

reply

I do tomatoes, bell and hot peppers, cukes, small pumpkins and a few others staples

Herbs all over the garden in medium to large cloth barrel-shaped bags

I put in a 200 square foot pumpkin patch this past fall with lumber and compost, I'll seed it in early summer and cross my fingers (I may need netting for it, it's down on the slope by the woodlot...critters!)

reply

Ah, yes. Critters! Mr & Mrs Neighbor usually have a small garden. Last year he had to replant the corn three times because squirrels kept eating the sprouting plants. He finally learned that if you sprinkle cayenne pepper around the plants, the critters leave them alone.

reply

The cayenne around the pumpkins might be a good idea, there are a lot of plump little grey fellows in the woodlot
