Looking for some suggestions for comedies

Anyone know of any good comedies to recommend with side-splitting laughter inducing scenes. I've found that the type of humor most likely to evoke that reaction in me are ones that have a very weird main character doing really crazy stuff in a normal situation and the ensuing interactions with other normal people in the scene. Here's a few examples that stand out in my memory that really had me laughing:

Tommy Boy - I Killed my Sale scene

Billy Madison - Invisible Penguin

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls - Monopoly Guy

Freddy Got Fingered - Daddy Would You Like Some Sausages

Master of Disguise - Jaws Scene

That should give a good idea of what sort of thing I'm looking for. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Anchorman and Airplane are still hilarious (you've probably seen them though)

Wet Hot American Summer is a good natured goof as well

reply

I've seen those, but I should go and rewatch Airplane. It's probably been 30 years since I saw it.

I S H T A R .

reply

Is that serious? I always had the impression that it was legendary in badness, but then I like Master of Disguise which gets a similar rap so it's possible if it is weird enough, I could enjoy it.

THE FIRST HALF OF ISHTAR WITH HOFFMAN AND BEATTY AS SUPER VANILLA DUDES TEAMING UP AND WRITING/SINGING SOME OF THE WORST MUSIC EVER IS AMAZING...THEN THE MIDDLE EAST PLOT KICKS IN AND IT TURNS FULL TURD REAL FAST...I REALLY DIG THAT OPENING HALF THOUGH...ITS HYSTERICAL.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)

reply

Great pick
Shame it didn't get a wide release, it seems to have not covered the $5 million budget despite being creative and very funny

reply

The movie is Canadian and no one here talks about it and we're not known for having many good movies. This thing is a hidden gem.

reply

Saw that one and loved it. Good call. Any others like that which I might have missed?

reply

Not sure. I'd have to think about it longer.

Galaxy Quest. The Money Pit, Project X and Dirty Rotton Scoundrels.

reply

Liked Galaxy Quest and saw dirty rotten scoundrels (but was really young, so I should watch again maybe). I'll check the other two out. Thanks,.

My Cousin Vinny

Oddly enough, I've never seen this although many have raved about it. I guess it's finally time to see it.

reply

Not gonna give anything away but I don't even know how many times I rewound the cow pasture scene!!

Spinal Tap and the films that descended from it: Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind

My two favorite Rodney Dangerfield: Easy Money, Back to School

Austin Powers films

Steve Martin films

Mel Brooks films

SNL cast based films

Maybe visit or re-visit The Marx Brothers

reply

And the Three Stooges!!!

reply

Who are these stooges you speak of?

I did like the original Spinal Tap movie, but never saw those others though I do have the Break Like the Wind CD from A Mighty Wind. The rest of those, I'm pretty familiar with except the Marx Bros. I don't think I've seen anything with them in it.

reply

My favorite of the "Trilogy" is Best in Show, one of my favorite movies of any genre. But the first one, "Waiting for Guffman" is really great, too. A Mighty Wind takes 3rd place, but still good.

As to the Marx Brothers, "Duck Soup" is usually #1 on any list of their best movies.

reply

The Jerk with Steve Martin.

reply

I’ve never watched Master of Disguise but am a fan of the others.

So, one that I really like that maybe flew under your radar is Dirty Work from 1998.

reply

I know Dirty Work. Good flick.
