i actually have a friend who did it for a half year or so between his graduation and getting a teaching job.

apparently he was a big hit with the kids. he went back to visit for years after he moved on with his career.

but the odd exception aside, i more or less agree with you. i mean, if a guy applied for the job & he had references, i guess i'd consider it, but i'd pick a woman with equivalent or even lesser qualifications for sure first.

if i ever walked into a daycare with male-only workers, i would probably be dialing 911.

That sounds extremely sexist and is based on stereotypes that aren't always true. Some men are very nurturing and some women are not. Some women are not trustworthy and pose a danger to children, just like some men do. You can't judge people based solely on their gender.

I did a social work course years back and part of that involved some field experience in a child care centre. The kids loved me because I was different to the female carers. They had someone that would kick a ball around with them and the boys in particular had someone to relate to better. I had a different approach to it all than the women.
