Times A Movie Character's Fate Was Worse Than Death

I recently watched The Skeleton Key with Kate Hudson for the second time (recommended for horror fans) and the ending actually affected me more this time around than it did during my first viewing. The first time I was just surprised by the twist. But while watching it again, knowing what would ultimately happen, it occurred to me that the fate of Kate's character Caroline was worse than death. I'm wondering, what are some movie characters who, in your opinion, have a fate worse than outright death?

Some I can think of, besides Caroline, are:

David from The Mist (2007)
Wallace from Tusk (2014)
Anna from Martyrs (2008)
Wade from House of Wax (2005) - He does eventually die, but it's incredibly slow and cruel.

Marcellus Wallace

You Should Have Left (2020) - I am not sure if he was dead at the end of this one. He was in purgatory of some kind.

Helena in Boxing Helena (1993)

I don't have an answer for your question, but I love this film. And so many people have never heard of it.

The Skeleton Key is a very well done film, and I agree, too few people know about it. :)

Any character in a torture porn horror movie.

That's what makes House of Wax so sick as what if someone were pulling people off the highway and encasing them in wax. It's discomforting to think about.

I agree. I don't care for the movie, but it had a very disturbing premise. The "waxing" sequence stayed with me for several days.

Oldboy (2003)

Hate or love the movie, Babydoll in Sucker Punch was lobotomized, and that's always struck me as worse than death given the world she's trapped in.

reply

I completely agree. Good pick!

Thank you.
