Who's idea was it to sing "Happy Birthday" while washing your hands?

Now every time I go to the bathroom, my kids expect me to walk out with a cake.

It a started from a misheard lyric. It was "happy birthday to poo, happy birthday to poo" and people just started singing it while washing their hands.

Lol I always tell my students to count to 20 or sing the chorus of their favorite song.

For me personally as somewhat of a germaphobe, I don't think the Happy Birthday song twice is sufficient for my peace of mind. My routine is to sing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida twice (not only vocals but humming the instrumental parts too). One disadvantage to that is now I have to type these posts with my nose since I just have two raw, bloody stumps at the end of my arms.
