The most recent movie you can think of that had an overture or intermission.
I know Tarantino added an intermission for one cut of The Hateful Eight.
As far as an overture, I can't think of the most recent film to have it.

I got nothing. All I think of when you say intermission/overture is Gone With the Wind. Its like saying What's the last great Musical movie you saw after 2000...It doesn't exist anymore.
shareI know. That's why I was wondering if there was a few "recent" films that have had it.
shareThat's funny. I constantly wonder what is wrong with newer musicals.
There seems to be a blueprint for new musicals that ends up being bland.
I'm not a passionate theater lover and am more conversant in other musical forms like rock and jazz, but the older musicals seem to have more "punch and zing", they seem smarter and less hackneyed.
I have trouble putting my finger on it, so to speak.
"What's the last great Musical movie you saw after 2000"
I thought The Greatest Showman was pretty good.
when i went to see the remastered 2001 during its theatrical run a few years back, they played it with an intermission.
the only other film i can recall seeing with one is reds in 1981.
I saw Reds yesterday, that's what gave me the idea.
sharei'd like to see them make a comeback, personally. i really appreciated the break when i went to see 2001.
that is assuming movie theatres still are a thing a year from now.
I really like overtures because it's like a way to pump you up before the movie.
shareAlso a great chance to hear well orchestrated music written by a master composer.
As young people (and other unsophisticated types) we stare at the screen and wait for something to happen, while the music swells in our ears and excites our minds.
To take the music out of the movie and listen to it alone, that's an interesting experience. I wish I listened to Soundtrack albums more often, but I'd have to dedicate myself as if I didn't have to work and have other interests.
I probably wouldn't be here at all.
West Side Story had a great overture. I'm not a big fan of the film, but that score in the beginning gets my blood pumping.
shareThe best overture: https://youtu.be/PHDycUXzNs0
shareThat song cuts deep. But it's just a flesh wound.
shareLots of Bollywood movies have an intermission.
shareI don't count them as movies.
shareYeah yeah yeah, you don't like Bollywood movies. They count.
shareI agree that they're Bollywood movies, but they're not real movies.
shareYou've never even seen one, so how would you even know.
shareI have. The best one is "A Wednesday", but I'd never watch it again. I've seen maybe 30 total and haven't loved a single one.
shareRight, because the definition of "movie" is whether you love it or not...
If I only watched 30 Hollywood movies from the last 10 years, I wouldn't be impressed either.
Obviously I'm joking about then not being movies. I just think they're good one. And they weren't all new. Sholay is supposed to be a classic and it's shit.
shareYes, I'm already fully aware of your opinion of Bollywood movies or K-pop or Bon Jovi. You asked for movies with an intermission and I gave you a sincere answer.
shareI know. I was just joshin'.
share"Joshin'"? Is that some Canadian expression? What does Josh have to do with it???
shareIt's not Canadian. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/josh
shareAnd here I thought you were referring to the Indo-Pakistani music group from Montreal!

They're not as good as these legends:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mhv6gipA3dc
shareWow, those guys are even better than Corey Hart!♥️
And such a sweet song.⬇️
they should be nothing but intermission.
shareYou've never even seen one, so your opinion doesn't count.
shareyou just have some corny singing and dancing. that basically covers it.
shareYou've never even seen one, so your opinion doesn't count.
shareThe Indian version of Line Dancing. Fun if you are into it.
And truthfully, I'm sure it takes a lot of work to be good at some of these Bollywood exercises.
I wish I could dance like that.
But not Line Dancing.
Ghandi had an intermission.
shareWhen Titanic came out in 1997 it had a 15 minute intermission. The funny thing is that intermissions are such a rarity that half the theater left thinking the movie was over and did not return. They must have been really bummed out: "What a rip-off! The ship didn't even sink!"
share🤣🤣🤣
shareWhen I saw it it didn't have one.
shareBut why include intermissions on DVD's? I just fast forward them, no time for that malarkey!
shareFor the beautiful score.
shareIt's called the entr'acte. Some films did say that on the screen, Ben-Hur and Gone With The Wind comes to mind.

I never knew the difference between an entr'acte and an intermission.
shareentr'acte I believe was originally synonymous with 'intermission,' but the meaning shifted to being the music played during the intermission.
shareSo I guess they choose when to put entr'acte and intermission because every intermission I've seen has had music.
shareIn the examples above of Ben-Hur and Gone With The Wind, a title card "Intermission" appears, then fades away and the title card "entr'acte" appears the rest of the time as the music plays.
