Does it go beyond hello? Do you socialise? Get each other's mail when you go away? Feed their cat?
Growing up we were close with our neighbors.
Not so much now.
There's 1 or 2 neighbors I talk with. I even share curry with them when I make it (always huge batch). I say hello to all my neighbors and get friendly responses except from 1 whom ignores me. Not close enough to any to feed cat nor have a key.
Less so with current narrative.
Not if I can help it, but I live in a condo and there is a very chatty older lady on my floor who wants to talk every time we cross paths. She's super nice though, so I deal with it.
However I used to live in a townhouse next to a Mexican family who would constantly bring me leftovers and invite me to dinner. They gave me so much food I barely had to go grocery shopping for those two years. Best neighbors ever.
Not much. We don’t socialise that’s for sure. I remember my parents inviting the neighbors over for dinner, parties and lots of gossiping about each other. It became a pain later on. I couldn’t walk down the street without one of them stalling me with a barrage of nosy questions “Did you get into college yet?” “Where’s your brother living now?” “Are those new drapes in your windows?” I appreciate the anonymity of my neighborhood now.
shareYeah. I'm an animal lover, so if I see a friendly animal in my neighbourhood, I usually ask the owner if I can pet it, which leads to a lot of conversations. Plus, I've bought Christmas and Easter presents for some of the people who live closeby and vice versa - their kids are very chatty.
