Did anybody actually believe this story? Sounds like it should be a movie. Starring Kevin Costner.

I never heard of this. I was serving in the Marines in 1985, so not living in NYC. But my parents were there, and we were Mets fans, and we knew who George Plimpton was. But this doesn't even ring a bell.

Plimpton played goalie in an exhibition NHL hockey game for the Flyers. He had a sense of humor.

A great New Yorker. He was from an upscale NYC family, had a lot of accomplishments, was considered a great raconteur, and was a helluva popcorn salesman
