A director can never see his/her own movie.

They made it, but they can never see it.

I think in a lot of cases they wouldn't even like it if in some way they could see it and didn't know anything about it.

Just a thought..

George Lucas obviously watches his own movies. And then proceeds to tamper them.

reply

Yes, you could even say ruin portions of them with his stupid tampering

reply

I'm sure they would be hyper-critical of their work.

What they should have done differently etc, or mad that time/money wasn't available to do something different.

reply

Yeah. They know all the twists and turns. They can never really know how predictable their films are.

reply

I don’t know, I can picture the Coen boys kicking back with popcorn and enjoying the many great performances in their films with a sense of pride on how well they strung it all together.

I can also imagine Tarantino being a fan of his own work. In a slightly more self absorbed way, bless his heart.

Alfred Hitchcock always had private screening of the final product before releasing to the public.

reply

He means they can never see it like a punter can y'all
Given they know how every nut and bolt is put together, not to mention the story , and how it turns out.
They can never "see it" like when we saw it for the first time.
They'll be constantly watching a behind the scenes version... with commentry!
