First Compact Disc player 1982 $1,200

Sony CDP -101 in today's dollars.

2020, you can buy a portable CD player for $28.

That's why it's always wise to never buy a new product right away. My 38 year wait for a discman has officially paid off.

I hought my first CD player in 1985. As I recall, it was about $200, which according to US BLS is about $500 today.

A few years later, around 1990, we were considering distributing software on CDs. We looked into what a CD writer would cost. Turned out to be $10,000. End of that idea.

I got my first CD Writer around 2003. Very cool piece of technology.

My first CD player was a 1986 Yamaha, and I have fond memories of my first high-end one, around 1995, a California Audio Labs Alpha (DAC) and Delta (Transport) combo. The combo retailed for around $2,000 ($3,600 today) but I bought the pair used and don't remember what I paid.

Yeah special memories for the first CD player for those that are old enough.

I was a Sony Walkman cassette guy w/ boombox for years.

My first stereo cd player was a Fisher 5 disc player w duel/cassette etc paid about $500 in 1993.

It's a little weird to me the reversion to vinyl records.

In The Wedding Singer one of the characters come in with a brand new CD player. It's about the size of a suitcase and he brags about how expensive it is.

Haven't seen that movie in years, but the "Love Stinks" tirade is burned into memory.

I was at Walmart a few days ago and you can still buy a new tape recorder (the rectangle kind from the late 1970's). This perplexed me, but maybe still used for legal purposes?
