I HAVE BEEN VACCINATED!!!!!

Received the first dose today, have an appointment for the second in January. No effects other than feeling very tired, but there could be a lot of reasons for that.

Thank you for your courage.

do you mind if i ask what put you at the front of the queue?

I have a policy of never telling anyone on this forum anything personal about myself, there are some real crazies here.

But the fact that I've been vaccinated at this early date does imply I'm either a politician, a rich fucker who can buy anything, or a front-line healthcare worker.

I vote rich fucker!

Or a hooker with some important people in your client book. ;)

However it happened, I'm glad for you. I'm not in any "essential" group, being of no importance to anyone. And I've got some health issues but not enough to push me up in the line. I'm just staying careful and keeping my fingers crossed.

Be safe and be sensible, so many hospitals are overcrowded and there's no cure for COVID, so this isn't a good time to catch anything.

reply

Thanks. No big worries here. I'm in a rural area so I can avoid people pretty easily. I've been semi-self-quarantining all along; nobody else has been in my house since March, I go to the grocery during off hours when there are few there, and so on. Being in this area instead of one of the urban hot spots meant that I could practice and tweak antiseptic techniques long before the virus even showed up here. Every time I went out for an errand I'd watch what I was doing, asking myself how I might have brought a virus into my car or my home -- should I have used my left hand instead of my right hand when I opened the car door, et cetera. Whenever in doubt I err on the side of overdoing it. One good sign is that I haven't even had a plain old common cold since last spring, which implies my precautions are working. Right now the positivity rate in this area is about 8.5%, and the incidence rate is a little under 0.1%; no reason to let my guard down, but things could be worse. I haven't been interacting face to face with people very much since March, but as I said to another person here, I'm the sort who's pretty comfortable with my own company, and I've got the telephone, the Internet, etc. So I'll hold out until I can get the shots. Sometimes you've just gotta TCB.

If only everyone were as sensible as you!

And we'd all like to thank you for doing it publicly yesterday to allay our fears, Mr. Biden. (I won't tell anyone else)

reply

Or over 80

reply

How many total doses do you have to take?

reply

Two, approximately twenty days apart.

reply

20 days sounds about right for the maximum incubation period.

Post back here to update us after your 2nd shot.

Did they give you the date for the 2nd shot?, by my estimate, it would fall between Jan. 8-11

reply

I have a date and a time, and put it on a day when I didn't have to work as a lot of people have reported some inconvenient side effects from the second shot. They report flu-like symptoms, fever, and new-onset exhaustion, all of which resolve in 24 hours. And yes, I'm getting the second shot anyway, better a day of feeling ill than to get an illness which is really horrible for some people who catch it, and which had no cure.

I like my sense of taste and don't want it to go away, and I've never been short of breath without severe altitude changes or strenuous exercise. I don't want to start now!
