Carhartt jackets

just got my first. damnn its a thing of beauty. got heft to it but feels like it would last me through the end times. love the stitching and nice to see a company that still makes products (some of them) in the USA and doesnt seem to be cutting corners and making the product crap to save a few bucks.

saw some videos and a guy "waxed" his beautiful blue one. it looks amazing. even warmer and 100% water resistant.

You bring up a point that I never understood: a business comes up with a great new product that puts the company on the map, then allows said product to gradually deteriorate. Makes no sense why they would want to disappoint their customers and lose sales.

its probably a well calculated customer loss vs profits margin. build up a big enough customer base say 1 millions products sold a year at 10 million sales. You make them well made and out of quality materials, but your profit margins only 10% so 1 million. now that you have that 'brand" cut costs, but you only sell 500k products at 5 million in sales. but now at a 30% profit margin. so you now make 1.5 million net.

Also it may take a few years til customers realize the quality has massively dropped. you dont instantly go from Carhartt to Georges (Walmart brand) over night. you switch manufactures from Mexico to china. then you try and cut costs by using the cheapest materials. then you lessen how strict qulaity control is

because it wasnt that cold out I threw on my winter coat from the year before a few days ago.i used to think of it as a "decent winter parka" and its by a decent brand woods.

But compared to my carhartt it literally felt like a wearing a thin sheet. not nessecarily the warmth provided just the thickness and quality

IVE HAD THE CHORE COAT FOR YEARS...IT BELONGED TO A RANCHER IN NEW MEXICO.HE BOUGHT A NEW ONE AND USED HIS OLD ONE AS A SEAT COVER ON HIS TRACTOR...MY DAD DID SOME WORK FOR HIM AND RECEIVED THE TRACTOR AS PARTIAL PAYMENT...HE THEN HAULED IT HOME TO CALIFORNIA WHERE I PEELED THE COAT OFF THE SEAT,WASHED IT AND PROCEEDED TO WEAR IT IN THE COLD MONTHS FOR THE LAST DECADE OR SO.ITS HANGING IN MY CLOSET RIGHT NOW,A BIT TATTERED,BUT STILL 100% FUNCTIONAL.
