The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is lame without any crowds

Anyone else watch it this morning?

I always turn it on. It's a tradition. Even though it's obviously just one big advertising effort, it's still kind of fun and I've been watching it since I was a kid.

But this year there are no crowds on the streets due to covid and the whole thing just feels dead. Lifeless. Bloodless.

Lame.

I watched it but it wasn't the same; however, I give them credit for attempting to continue a tradition during the pandemic - especially in NYC.

reply

Yes, I suppose it's better to make the attempt rather then just giving up and canceling the whole thing. Covid has canceled too much already.

I always go to a movie on Thanksgiving Day, and thanks to covid there's no big new release except for The Croods II, which isn't exactly aimed at people like me. I wish the studios had taken a chance and released something big. Just another covid casualty.

My husband and I always go on Christmas Day because we have our family get together the weekend before and we're by ourselves on Christmas. It's always so much fun but unfortunately, that won't be happening this year!!!

reply

I went to see Honest Thief, the new Liam Neeson movie. It wasn't bad! And it was nice to go to a movie because I haven't been to the theater since Tenet came out.

Are the theaters open where you are?

reply

Yes, but my husband is in the high risk category, so we won't be going until he can get the vaccine.

reply

I can't imagine going to a movie on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas. Are the theaters full on those days?

reply

They are packed.

reply

I have gone on both Thanksgiving and Christmas almost every year for the last 13 years. It's nice! It's definitely a good way to get a break from just being in the house with everyone and I know a lot of families make a tradition out of it.

And yeah, there are usually a lot of people there. Though of course this year will undoubtedly be different.

Having singers lip synch at a live parade is disgusting, whether or not there is a crowd. Do not PRETEND to be presenting a LIVE performance, when you are really just playing a CD. NBC should DROP DEAD with their phony self-promotions.

reply

Yeah, I agree about the lip synching. It's dumb and very obvious. Though the artists they bring on, and the songs they sing, are bad enough that even if they were actually singing it would still be pretty unappealing.

Really, I would they would pare down the musical artists significantly and instead having more marching bands, dancers, etc.

reply

I really hate lip syncing. I'd much rather have a live performance with a few flaws. Also, it's amazing how bad some of them really are at it - so obvious.

I saw Tina Turner in concert in her 60's prancing around in stilettos singing live, so these 20 and 30 something's can certainly do it while just standing there.

reply

I sm super po’d at the dog show. The basset hound always gets dissed. 😑

reply

LOL.

I watched a few minutes of it and clicked it off, which is what I do pretty much every year. I never change the channel immediately--there is something nice about it and I recognize that it's a tradition for it to air after the parade every year--but I also never make it to the end.

Furthermore, I have never have any idea what the judges are actually looking for.

reply

They judge dogs by what the standard is for a particular breed. Dog that comes closest to that is the winner.

reply

It’s not worth watching without Underdog.

reply

It was even lame with the crowds.

😎

reply

HaπŸ˜†!
This made me smile
Yes, it always was pretty lame

The dog show and football are way better

reply

I loved it......when I was 12. The NFL is the best, but dog show? WTF?

😎

reply

I enjoy it more when they stick to holiday music. I really didn't care for the performers from Hamilton.

reply

I really would like them to cut down the singers to about 1/3 and fill in the gaps with more marching bands and dance teams and the like.
