Guitar

Thinking about learning to play the guitar. I know how to play a little. Haven't really played much lately. I have an acoustic at home but I wanna get an electric, I always felt like they were a bit more forgiving to an amateur, plus you can play them quietly if need be and not annoy the whole house. Any recommendations for a cheap basic electric that's is fairly decent? I can't stress the word 'cheap' enough though.

Squier or Epiphone are cheap, Squier is owned by Fender and Epiphone by Gibson two of the biggies. They make budget versions of their main guitars.

LTD is another good brand. Also Yamaha.

It depends on what kind of sound you are going for too. Not sure which country you are in but the brands I mentioned tend to be pretty cheap.

I'm in Australia. Yeah that's kinda what I've been sussing out. I think I'm looking for something without a whammy bar though.

I thought you were but couldn't recall.

These guitars are cheap and the Stratocaster looking ones have whammy bars https://www.cranbournemusic.com.au/product-category/guitar/electric-guitars/?product-brand=squier&product_orderby=price

If you're serious and committed, spend at least $300 and don't get a tremolo bar (like you said). But don't forget that you'll need more $ for other gear. I don't recommend those starter kits that come with a cheaper guitar, practice amp, cords, strings, picks, etc.

And don't fret too much about the brand since it's almost hard to buy a bad guitar (and many are made by the same manufacturer at the same factory) -- at that price point and above -- these days.

I don't know about stores/dealers in Australia, but after holding a few in your hand at a store, there are many places to order online. And it's worth getting it set up by a pro at the store, and some places -- including online -- do it for free.
