Heil Honey I'm Home!

worst sitcom idea ever?

From what I recall about seeing clips of it, it just looked really cheap and was badly written.

No one seemed to care when Mel Brooks was doing To Be Or Not To Be but then that was earlier on and people were less sensitive.

Certainly in the top five.

Did they Nazi this was a bad idea? This is reich up there with the worst idea. They probably lost a lot of money with this but at what Holocaust?

reply

Probably second worst.

Worst sitcom idea is making an American remake of a British sitcom. (Oh, sure, you can make money, but it won't be funny.)

all in the family?

reply

Well I sure didn't know about that. I never saw the original. How loosely was All on the Family based on it? I've seen ones that use the exact same script and fall totally flat in the American version. Norman Lear probably did some actual writing.

Who on earth greenlit this?

I'd never heard of this. Apparently several episodes were filmed but only one was aired. The entire aired episode is on Youtube.

I'll never understand television audiences! The tastes of the general public mystify me! How could this not succeed, with scenes like this:

After consuming considerable amounts of alcohol, various characters are dancing in a conga line around the Hitlers' living room. Adolf is the last in the line. The Jewish neighbor enters to introduce her niece.

Neighbor -- "Hey everybody, say hello to Ruth."

Conga dancers -- "Heil Ruth!"

Neighbor, to Ruth -- "Grab hold of the Fuehrer's butt."

Ruth -- "Okay." (does so)
